Job summary

Southland Industries’ internship program introduces candidates to estimating within the Design/Build HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection sector. You will support the estimating team on budgets, take-offs and updates for simpler projects, under guidance from experienced estimators.

You will analyze drawings with industry software, help maintain cost data, and assist in organizing project documents to ensure accurate, accessible estimates.

Responsibilities

• Assist estimating team with preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates, and detailed estimates for smaller, less complex projects within specified trades.
• Collaborate with experienced estimators to analyze project drawings and use software to perform material take-offs and provide unit cost pricing.
• Help develop project updates and compare bid documents to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Support tracking and adjusting quantities, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring estimates are accurate.
• Research and compile historical cost data and maintain an up-to-date cost database.
• Organize and maintain project document files to back up estimates and ensure accessibility.

Position Summary

Our internship program is designed to introduce candidates to a career in the field of Estimating within the Design/Build HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection industry. The primary responsibility is to assist the estimating team in all aspects of our work.

Position Details

• Working alongside Southland Estimators to assist with preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates, and detailed estimates for smaller, less complex projects within specific trades.
• Collaborate with experienced Estimators to analyze project drawings and use relevant software to perform material take-offs, contributing to detailed estimates and providing unit cost pricing.
• Assist in developing project updates and comparing bid package estimate documents to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Support the team in tracking and adjusting quantities as needed, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring estimates are accurate.
• Help research and compile historical cost data, maintaining an up-to-date database for future estimate preparation.
• Assist in organizing and maintaining a file of project documents to back up estimating figures and ensure documentation is complete and accessible.

Pay

For California-based internship roles, the pay rate is set at $26.00 per hour, in alignment with program guidelines and market standards.

Contingent Employment

All employment offers are contingent upon successful drug tests, background checks, and professional reference checks. Roles that include driving as an essential job duty will be required to have a successful Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR). We are not able to offer sponsorship of employment at this time.
