Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking highly motivated internship candidates to join our Estimating team in the Design/Build HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection field in California. You will work alongside experienced estimators, supporting budgets, conceptual and detailed estimates for smaller projects, and learning to perform material take-offs with relevant software.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates, and detailed estimates for smaller, less complex projects.
• Collaborate with experienced Estimators to analyze project drawings and perform material take-offs for unit cost pricing.
• Develop project updates and compare bid package estimates for accuracy and consistency.
• Track and adjust quantities, resolve discrepancies, and ensure estimate accuracy.
• Research historical cost data and maintain an up-to-date estimation database.
• Organize and maintain project documents to back up estimating figures and ensure documentation is accessible.

Job description

Our internship program is designed to introduce candidates to a career in the field of Estimating within the Design/Build HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection industry. The primary responsibility is to assist the estimating team in all aspects of our work.

• Working alongside Southland Estimators to assist with preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates, and detailed estimates for smaller, less complex projects within specific trades.
• Collaborate with experienced Estimators to analyze project drawings and use relevant software to perform material take-offs, contributing to detailed estimates and providing unit cost pricing.
• Assist in developing project updates and comparing bid package estimate documents to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Support the team in tracking and adjusting quantities as needed, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring estimates are accurate.
• Help research and compile historical cost data, maintaining an up-to-date database for future estimate preparation.
• Assist in organizing and maintaining a file of project documents to back up estimating figures and ensure documentation is complete and accessible

Pay:For California-based internship roles, the pay rate is set at $26.00 per hour, in alignment with program guidelines and market standards.
