Job summary

Major Tool & Machine (MTM) in Indianapolis, IN, is offering an Engineering Intern position. The role focuses on supporting engineering activities, CAD modeling, and documenting processes while aligning with SOPs and 6S practices.

Position Title: INTERN - ENGINEERING

Position Summary: Work assignments will depend on workload and project needs. Work schedule is normally 40 hours a week, some overtime may be available depending on the need or assignment. Objective is to support engineering activities.

Reports To: Customer Focused Team Leader

Accountabilities:Accountable for general understanding and following SOP’s & WI’s related to job duties while supporting 6S practices.

Authorities: As designated or delegated by the Program Manager

Duties: Project duties will be determined by the Program Manager. Possible tasks may include:

• Creating metric charts to track current project results
• Supporting continuous improvement efforts
• Documenting processes of operations
• Developing training material to support documented processes
• Working with individuals to provide engineering/technical support to improving methods for manufacturing
• Creating CAD models to support manufacturing efforts
• Starting and updating drawings to better reflect current models

Job Qualification Requirements:

Educational Experience

– Pursuing a BS degree in a technically related field, and must be completing sophomore or junior academic year currently.

Experience

– Must have experience with Microsoft Suite, CAD software (preferably Inventor), general coursework regarding engineering.

Physical Demands

– The employee is required to:

• stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor,
• exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
• exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently.

Visual Acuity

– Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading.

Hearing ability

– Ability to communicate with employees.

Working conditions

– Normally works in an office environment. Occasionally, the employee is subject to:

• shop floor environment,
• high noise levels from operating machines,
• physical hazards from moving equipment and production components,
• breathing fumes, dust and mist,
• skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids,
• welding flashes.
