Job summary

Corning is seeking an Electrical Engineer Intern to support controls-focused engineering activities at Sullivan Park. This role provides hands-on exposure to controls engineering, including instrumentation, sensors, automation, electrical components, troubleshooting, and equipment control systems.

The intern will work closely with engineering, operations, maintenance, and technical teams to develop and support prototype equipment used in R&D activities.

Responsibilities

• Support electrical and controls engineering activities related to prototype, developmental equipment and infrastructure.
• Assist with the design, assembly, testing, debugging, and improvement of prototype equipment and associated electrical and control systems
• Support troubleshooting of electrical, instrumentation, and controls-related issues in partnership with engineers, technicians, and operations personnel
• Develop, update, and maintain engineering documentation, including schematics, work instructions, test procedures, specifications, and technical reports
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve equipment reliability, process consistency, and safe operation of developmental systems
• Present project updates, findings, and recommendations to engineering and operational stakeholders as needed

Role Purpose

Corning is seeking an Electrical Engineer Intern to support controls-focused engineering activities at Sullivan Park. This role provides an opportunity to contribute in a research and development environment through the design, build, testing, and improvement of prototype equipment and associated electrical and control systems. The Electrical Engineer Intern will work closely with engineering, operations, maintenance, and technical teams to develop and support prototype and experimental equipment used in R&D activities. The role provides hands‑on exposure to controls engineering, including instrumentation, sensors, automation, electrical components, troubleshooting, and equipment control systems. The role may also inlcude infrastructure support.

Key Responsibilities

• Support electrical and controls engineering activities related to prototype, developmental equipment and infrastructure.
• Assist with the design, assembly, testing, debugging, and improvement of prototype equipment and associated electrical and control systems
• Support troubleshooting of electrical, instrumentation, and controls-related issues in partnership with engineers, technicians, and operations personnel
• Assist in developing and implementing improvements to equipment controls, automation, and overall system performance
• Collect, organize, and analyze technical data to support engineering decisions, testing activities, and project execution
• Develop, update, and maintain engineering documentation, including schematics, work instructions, test procedures, specifications, and technical reports
• Support evaluation and selection of sensors, instruments, control components, and related hardware for prototype and R&D applications
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to improve equipment reliability, process consistency, and safe operation of developmental systems
• Present project updates, findings, and recommendations to engineering and operational stakeholders as needed
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Experiences/Education - Required

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
• Coursework in electrical systems, circuits, controls, instrumentation, automation, or related technical area

• Interest in applying engineering skills to prototype equipment design, controls development, and continuous improvement in an R&D environment

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
