Job summary

SupportFinity™ is seeking a motivated Data Scientist Intern for Summer 2026 to join our SiC Data Systems team, gaining hands-on experience in Machine Learning and AI applications in manufacturing.

The internship will focus on LLM implementation and defect classification, requiring collaboration with data professionals. Candidates should be pursuing a relevant degree and be US citizens or permanent residents. Internship lasts 10-14 weeks and includes networking events and team-building activities.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job Description

We are seeking a motivated Data Scientist Intern to join our SiC Data Systems team for Summer 2026. The intern will gain hands‑on experience in Machine‑Learning and Artificial Intelligence applications in manufacturing, work alongside software and data professionals, and meaningfully contribute to projects that support large‑scale manufacturing of next‑generation semiconductor SiC materials.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Projects will be in LLM implementation (Retrieval‑Augmented Generation) or machine‑learning‑based defect classification.
  • Guided ownership of entire project pipeline: problem identification, process discovery, solution design, and implementation.
  • Key skills involved include dataset construction, model training & validation, semantic layer engineering.
  • Close collaboration with software engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders.
  • By the end of the internship, a prototype of the selected project is expected.
Education & Experience
  • Open to currently enrolled students or those who have graduated within one year of the internship start date.
  • Pending bachelor’s degree (rising senior) at minimum. A pending master’s or doctoral degree is beneficial.
  • Majors: Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or other related STEM fields.
  • Relevant coursework or extracurricular experience in material science or manufacturing is a plus.
  • Must be US citizen or permanent resident.
Skills & Other Requirements
  • Proficiency in AI model training or LLM context engineering.
  • Familiarity with Python‑based data science ecosystem.
  • Sound understanding of foundations of AI/ML technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Team‑oriented but able to work independently when needed.

Additional Information
  • Internship Duration: 10 – 14 weeks.

Working Conditions
  • This role will be based on‑site in Pine Brook, NJ, with on‑demand travel to Easton, PA.
  • Regular use of a computer and other office equipment is necessary.
  • Depending on the project, regular light technical work in advanced manufacturing settings, such as in clean rooms, might be necessary.
Physical Requirements
  • Sitting for extended periods while working on a computer or in meetings.
  • Use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling documents.
  • Occasional lifting of objects or materials up to 20 pounds for administrative tasks.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
ITAR/EAR and Other Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, or protected individual).
  • Compliance with all applicable export control regulations.
Safety Requirements

All employees are required to attend scheduled training, follow the site EHS procedures and II‑VI Corporate EHS standards. This includes the use of proper protective equipment (PPE) as required by the job responsibilities. Managers will ensure that all safety and environmental procedures are followed consistently, perform risk assessments, provide proper training and work instructions, and monitor compliance.

Depending on location, this position may be responsible for the execution and maintenance of the ISO 9000, 9001, 14001, and/or other applicable standards that may apply to the relevant roles and responsibilities within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
