Job summary

Hays Electrical Services in Houston, TX, is seeking a Data Analyst Intern for its Summer Internship Program. The Data Analyst Intern will support analytics initiatives spanning IT and Accounting/Finance, building dashboards and reports to help leadership make faster, better-informed decisions.

This paid summer internship runs 10–12 weeks in Houston, with rotation across two departments and a dedicated mentor.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics or related field.
• Proficiency in Excel; exposure to Power BI or SQL preferred.
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Power BI dashboards for IT, Recruiting, and Finance KPIs.
• Clean and validate data across ERP, ATS, HRIS, and other systems.
• Support cost tracking, budgeting analysis, and reporting automation.
• Collaborate with IT, Accounting, and Recruiting to translate needs into analytics deliverables.

Location: Houston, TX, with potential travel to project sites across Texas

Employment Type: Paid Summer Intern (10–12 Weeks)

Position Summary

The Data Analyst Intern will support data analytics initiatives spanning IT and Accounting/Finance, building the dashboards and reports that help Hays leadership make faster, better-informed decisions. This role offers rotational exposure across two departments, giving the intern a broad view of how data drives both operational and financial decision‑making at a growing electrical contractor.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting & Dashboards

• Build and maintain Power BI dashboards covering recruiting, project cost, and financial KPIs.
• Support ad hoc data and reporting requests from leadership.

Data Quality & Analysis

• Clean and validate data across systems (ERP, ATS, HRIS).
• Identify trends and anomalies, and support root‑cause analysis on data discrepancies.

Financial & Operational Analytics

• Support cost tracking and budget analysis alongside the Accounting team.
• Assist with reconciliation and reporting automation.

Cross‑Department Collaboration

• Partner with IT, Accounting, and Recruiting to understand reporting needs and translate them into analytics deliverables.

Qualifications & Skills

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics or a related field
• Proficiency in Excel; exposure to Power BI, SQL, or similar tools preferred
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills
• Ability to communicate data insights clearly to non‑technical audiences

Preferred

• Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI tools
• Basic SQL or database querying experience
• Coursework or experience in financial or construction‑industry analytics

Internship Program Details

• Paid, 10–12 week summer program (early June – mid‑August)
• Assigned supervisor for day‑to‑day work plus a separate mentor for informal guidance and support
• Company‑wide orientation, weekly lunch‑and‑learns with department leaders, and a mid‑summer check‑in
• Capstone project presented to department and executive leadership in the final week
• Strong performers — particularly graduating seniors — will be considered for full‑time offers
