Job summary

State of South Dakota | Office of Attorney General invites a Summer Intern – ATG to support consumer protection work in Pierre. The intern will handle day-to-day office duties, answer toll-free inquiries, and assist with research on vehicle lemon law, travel statutes, cyber security, and ID theft.

There may be special projects with investigators and public outreach at state fairs. The internship requires enrollment as a part-time or full-time student, with preference for juniors/seniors and

Qualifications

• Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
• All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
• Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation. An arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of a drug screening.

• APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER.

Position Description

Intern will assist with the day-to-day duties of the office. This may include answering our toll-free line to assist consumers with their issue. Intern will become well versed with consumer protection laws such as the vehicle lemon law, travel statutes, charities, cyber security, ID Theft, and many more. The internship may also include special projects such as working with the Investigators on research, organizing case files and prepping a case. This position may include attending the various fairs we attend throughout the state working in our Consumer Protection booth and interacting with the public.
