Job summary

Prairie View A&M University seeks an Intern (Community & Economic Development) to assist in planning workshops, supporting workforce and housing education programs, and preparing materials for participants. You will help manage registrations, event logistics, and promotional content while learning digital tools and outreach strategies on campus.

Current PVAMU students enrolled in the required credit hours, with strong communication skills and a willingness to learn, are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled at PVAMU for the term of work with the specified credit hours.
  • Good academic standing (SAP) with min 2.0 GPA; no prior experience required.
  • For summer term: enrolled in 3 graduate or 6 undergrad credits or preregistered with 6 undergrad credits.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and coordinating community workshops, trainings, and events.
  • Support workforce development, small business, and housing education programs.
  • Prepare program materials, registrations, and participant resources.
  • Assist with participant check-in and event logistics.
  • Maintain program records, data entry, and digital file management.
  • Support purchasing and inventory for program supplies.
  • Create promotional materials; help with social content and photos/videos.
  • Assist with surveys via Qualtrics and data analysis for program evaluation.

Job Overview

Intern (Community & Economic Development) – Department: Cooperative Extension Programs, Agency: PrairieViewA&MUniversity. Location: PrairieView,Texas. Type: Student Worker. Minimum Salary: $20.00 hourly.

Important Immigration Information: A Presidential proclamation issued on September19,2025 imposes a $100,000 fee on new H‑1B petitions filed after September21,2025. TexasA&MUniversity will NOT pay this fee. If you require immigration sponsorship, consult your private immigration counsel to ascertain eligibility. On January27,2026 Texas Governor Abbot issued a moratorium on filing new H‑1B petitions unless approved by the Texas Workforce Commission. This moratorium may affect future sponsorship availability.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and coordinating community workshops, trainings, and special events.
  • Support workforce development, small business, and housing education programs.
  • Prepare program materials, registration packets, and participant resources.
  • Assist with participant check‑in and event logistics.
  • Maintain program records and databases; assist with data entry and report preparation; create and manage electronic files and documents.
  • Support purchasing and inventory processes for program supplies and materials.
  • Develop flyers, newsletters, and promotional materials; assist with social media content creation and scheduling; take photographs and videos during events and programs; help maintain the unit’s website and digital communications.
  • Assist in creating and distributing surveys using Qualtrics; compile and organize program evaluation data; assist with virtual and in‑person training technology; support digital literacy and educational technology initiatives.
  • Assist with branding and design projects; support production of promotional items using equipment such as heat press, sublimation equipment, and XTool laser engraver, if applicable; assist with creating educational displays and exhibits.
  • Participate in community outreach activities and networking events; represent the CED Unit professionally at Extension programs and community functions; assist in developing resources that support underserved communities and individuals.
Required Education and Experience
  • Presently enrolled at PrairieViewA&MUniversity for at least nine (9) graduate or six (6) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
  • Must be in good academic standing (SAP) with a minimum 2.0 GPA.
  • No prior experience necessary.
  • For summer term work eligibility: enrolled for at least three (3) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term, or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours for the fall/spring terms.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or social media platforms preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Creativity and willingness to learn new technologies.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to travel locally to community events and trainings.
