First Merchants Corporation invites motivated college students to join its 12-week, paid Summer Internship Program in Indianapolis. The Commercial Bank team will guide you through day-to-day tasks, credit lending analytics, onboarding, and sales support, with exposure to multiple business lines and leadership interactions.

Qualifications

• Be a full-time Bachelor (or higher) degree-seeking student at an accredited college or university.
• Be available to work 40 hours per week May 17th– August 6th, 2027.
• Be authorized to work in the United States.
• Have demonstrated interest in the industry.
• Possess a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Be able and willing to travel periodically throughout the First Merchants footprint, if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Support the Commercial Administration team with day-to-day projects and initiatives.

Summer Internship Program Overview

First Merchants internship opportunities are available in a variety of business areas including Credit Administration, Commercial Banking, Consumer Banking, Treasury Management, Private Wealth, Technology, Human Resources, Marketing, Risk, Operations, and other business functions.

Department Internship Duties & Responsibilities

The Commercial Bank Intern will support the Commercial Administration team through day-to-day responsibilities, projects, and initiatives that contribute to departmental goals. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to contribute to First Merchants Bank's Commercial Line of Business, supporting strategic initiatives in credit lending analysis, loan onboarding, business analytics, compliance, and sales enablement. The interns will gain exposure to core commercial banking operations while delivering meaningful project outcomes aligned with the bank's 2027 objectives.

Below is what students can expect to learn from an internship within the Commercial Administration Department at First Merchants:

1. Training, job shadowing, interviews, and one-on-one meetings with leaders across credit, commercial lending, loan administration, business analytics, compliance, and sales enablement.
2. Three-week Credit Training Program: financial statement analysis, credit analytics, regional loan committee processes, accounting knowledge, and credit spread practices.
3. Risk & compliance exposure through committee observations and policy reviews.
4. Commercial loan onboarding exposure through shadowing with Commercial Client Support and Commercial Loan Operations.
5. Overview of Commercial business segments (Community, Middle Market, Upper Middle Market, Investment Real Estate, Sponsor Finance, Asset Backed Lending, and Treasury Management).

In addition to the learning objectives, all interns will participate in a coordinated community service project. Interns will have an opportunity to network with Executive and Senior Leadership at our Intern Meet & Greet event and will present a summary of their experience at the conclusion of the internship program.
