Job summary

First Merchants Corporation seeks highly motivated college students for a 12-week paid Summer Internship Program in Commercial Banking and related business areas. Interns will gain hands-on experience in credit analysis, portfolio management, and the commercial banking sales cycle, with mentorship and exposure to senior leadership.

Opportunities span Credit Administration, Commercial Banking, Treasury Management, and more, with participation in community service projects and their internship

Qualifications

• Be a full-time Bachelor (or higher) degree-seeking student at an accredited college or university.
• Be available to work 40 hours per week from May 17th – August 6th, 2027.
• Be authorized to work in the United States.
• Have demonstrated interest in the industry and/or specific area of interest.
• Possess a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Be able and willing to travel periodically throughout the First Merchants footprint, if applicable.

Summer Internship Program Overview

First Merchants internship opportunities are available in a variety of business areas including Credit Administration, Commercial Banking, Consumer Banking, Treasury Management, Private Wealth, Technology, Human Resources, Marketing, Risk, Operations, and other business functions.

Department Internship Duties & Responsibilities

The Commercial Banking Intern will learn the roles within commercial banking and the products and services the bank provides commercial customers. The intern will gain skills in assessing credit risk, analyzing financial data, portfolio management, and the team-based credit decision process. The intern will also learn the commercial banking sales cycle, relationship banking, whole-bank selling techniques, and commercial banking sales management, while gaining hands‑on sales experience.
