Job summary

Langan Engineering & Environmental Services is seeking an Intern/Co-op - Environmental to join our New Haven, CT team. You will assist with environmental aspects of land development projects, participate in fieldwork, and help prepare reports and calculations under supervision.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a four-year or advanced degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or Geology with strong data analysis, GIS skills, and communication abilities. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• GPA 3.0 or higher preferred.
• Strong analytical and judgment capabilities.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Working knowledge of GIS or environmentally related software and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and execution of field investigations, log borings, collect samples and data.
• Monitor construction projects and test for compliance with specs.
• Document results and prepare reports from field investigations.
• Learn data management and environmental modeling tools.
• Prepare logs, forms, and laboratory data summaries.

Langan is seeking an Intern/Co-op - Environmental to join its collaborative team in New Haven, CT. This individual will serve a key function in providing assistance with environmental‑related technical aspects of diverse land development projects, both small and large scale. In this role, you will have the opportunity to partner directly with environmental leadership and gain exposure to site feasibility studies which may involve field work, technical report preparation and calculations, pre‑construction conditions documentation, design plans and specifications.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist with the planning and execution of field investigations by logging borings, collecting samples, performing field tests and collecting and recording data;
• Monitor construction projects by taking various tests to evaluate whether the contractor or subcontractor has complied with job specifications;
• Identify solutions to field and/or laboratory problems and accurately document results;
• Prepare reports documenting field investigations and analytical results;
• Prepare a variety of standard logs and field forms (such as drilling logs, field investigation dailies, and chain of custody logs).
• Learn data management and modeling tools for environmental media, how to perform engineering analyses, and how to properly use field equipment;
• Conduct; file reviews, site reconnaissance, and prepares reports;
• Prepare laboratory data summary tables and figures;
• Effectively use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to assess soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data and their impact on the planning and design of projects;
• Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

• Student actively pursuing a four year or advanced degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or Geology;
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater preferred;
• Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities;
• Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment;
• Working knowledge of GIS or environmentally related software, and Microsoft Office Suite applications;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

• Travel may be required based on business needs and project assignments. Travel requirements may vary by position and may change based on business needs.

Preference will be given to students who are currently in their Jr. or Sr. year or to students pursuing their MS degree.
