Job summary

Engineering Systems Inc. (ESi) is seeking seasonal interns in Aurora, IL for civil/structural engineering tasks. You will perform site inspections, document dimensions, and prepare repair drawings using AutoCAD, SAP2000, and MathCAD.

The role requires up to 2 classes if in a co-op program, with a minimum of 32 hours per week, and a 40-hour workweek during business hours.

Qualifications

• Completed 3 years of college in Civil engineering or Physics/Science program.
• 3.00 GPA or higher, preferred.
• Experience in field investigations, structural inspections, structural analysis, and technical reporting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Site visits to perform inspections of existing structures.
• Dimensional documentation of structures and understanding of existing structural systems.
• Prepare AutoCAD drawings detailing proposed repairs or retrofits to existing structures.
• Use SAP2000 to perform structural analysis.
• Use MathCAD or Excel to organize and present calculations and data.
• Prepare technical reports conveying results of analyses or inspections.
• Internships are full-time, 40 hours/week, Mon-Fri (8am-5pm).
• Co-op: up to 2 classes and at least 32 hours/week.

Key Responsibilities

• Site visits to perform inspections of existing structures.
• Dimensional documentation of structures and understanding of existing structural systems.
• Condition assessment or damage documentation of damaged or other existing structures.
• Reviewing literature, drawings, reports, or other documentation related to project work.
• Preparing AutoCAD drawings detailing proposed repairs or retrofits to existing structures.
• Using analysis software such as SAP2000 to perform structural analysis.
• Using programs such as MathCAD or Excel to organize and present calculations and data.
• Preparing technical reports to convey the results of analyses or inspections.
• Internships with ESi are expected to be full-time, 40 hours per week, from Monday to Friday (Business hours are from 8 am-5 pm).
• If you are participating in our co-op program – we require that you are taking no more than 2 classes during your employment with ESi and are able to work a minimum of 32 hours per week.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications / Licenses

• Completed 3 years of college in Civil engineering or Physics/Science program.
• 3.00 GPA or higher, preferred.

Experience

• Any experience performing field investigations, structural inspections, structural analysis, structural design, technical report writing, and preparation is preferred.

Other Technical & Non-Technical Skills

• Intermediate skills with CAD and office productivity software.
• Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Must be able to travel for trips of three days in length.

Physical Demands

This role requires frequently sitting or standing for extended periods of time and occasionally lifting and/or moving items weighing up to 50 pounds, with infrequent lifting up to 75 pounds. The work regularly requires bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, and maintaining balance. This position frequently requires handling and operating specialized tools and equipment and working in a variety of physical positions, including occasionally accessing tight or confined spaces.
