Job summary

The City of Fort Wayne invites engineering-minded students to explore internship openings across Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical, Construction, and related areas. You will work with City Utilities engineers on projects that support Fort Wayne's water and utility infrastructure, balancing office tasks with hands-on fieldwork.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
• Completion of at least two years of college is preferred
• Strong attention to detail, organization and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently, manage changing priorities and contribute as part of a team
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and work in both office and outdoor environments
• A valid driver's license is required when operating a City vehicle

Responsibilities

• Conduct field visits, surveys, equipment inspections and asset-data collection
• Compare engineering plans and specifications with existing field conditions
• Assist engineers with project planning, design research and specification preparation
• Organize project data, prepare preliminary reports and present recommendations
• Complete lift-station inspections, data tracking, filing and required City training

What You'll Do

Work alongside City Utilities engineers on projects that support Fort Wayne's water and utility infrastructure. You'll divide your time between office assignments and hands-on fieldwork while learning how public engineering projects move from planning to design.

Key Responsibilities

What You Bring - Education & Experience

• Comfortable collecting, organizing and communicating technical data
• Proficiency in English; Spanish or Burmese language skills are a plus
