Job summary

Tallgrass is offering a Summer 2027 accounting internship at our Lakewood office with a 10‑week, full‑time schedule. You will gain exposure to operational accounting, financial reporting, and corporate accounting while contributing to real projects across the company.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in a bachelor’s program in business, accounting, or finance, with strong MS Office skills and a drive to learn. This paid internship includes mentorship and field location exposure.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or finance with an expected graduation between Dec 2026 and May 2028.
  • Proficient in MS Office; ability to quickly learn new software and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations following GAAP.
  • Assist in periodic internal forecasts and regulatory reporting accuracy.
  • Collaborate with departments to ensure accuracy of third‑party transactions.
  • Learn transaction research and document explanations for audits.
  • Prepare financial statements and related footnotes.
  • Support month‑end close process from multiple perspectives.

This internship will get a variety of exposure to Accounting & Financial Reporting. Equally important is the expectation for the selected candidate to gain exposure and experience in an opportunity rich industry. In doing this, the selected candidate will be learning about this industry from a unique position which will require contact with various parts of the company. This internship also comes with the following advantages:

You can expect to:
  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Assist in the preparation of periodic internal forecasts
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure accuracy in regulatory reporting and third-party transactions
  • Learn how to perform transaction research and document explanations.
  • Prepare financial statements and related footnotes.
  • Document formal tie outs of financial statements.
  • Develop an understanding of the month-end close process from multiple perspectives within the accounting department.
  • Assist with ad-hoc reporting requests for internal departments and external audit.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Exposure to a variety of accounting roles (operational accounting, financial reporting, corporate accounting) and gain an understanding of cyclical accounting demands
  • How to work as part of the accounting team to compile and analyze data, track information, and support the company

Education:

Students actively enrolled in bachelor’s degree in business administration, Accounting or Finance with an expected graduation date December 2026-May 2028

Experience/Specific Knowledge (what skills, classes, experience do they need to have)
  • Proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Passion for innovation and problem-solving, as well as a continuous drive to improve processes.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software applications and platforms.

What Else You Need to Know

Our internships are temporary full-time positions, in-person/hybrid at our Lakewood office. We will host our Summer 2027 interns from May-August for 10 weeks.

Compensation And Other Benefits
  • Pay Range $21.09-$29.88 USD Hourly
  • The final pay for this role will depend on a variety of factors, including a specific candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, and working location. The total compensation package for this role may also include; paid time off, a housing stipend and more.

Compensation ranges are provided in good faith based on what we anticipate when researching wages for this position at the state and national levels. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
