Job description

Pixels on Target is recruiting exceptional paid interns from top universities and standout technical programs across the country to help build the next generation of visual augmentation and sensing systems.

Our interns work on real products, real prototypes, and real technical problems at the intersection of optics, embedded systems, software, autonomy, and AI. If you want to work on advanced systems that combine camera design, GPS/GNSS, laser range finding, computer vision, and intelligent sensing across multiple imaging bands, this is the kind of internship that can define your career.

We are especially excited to meet high-performing Master’s and PhD students, as well as exceptional undergraduate candidates with unusual technical depth, research experience, or demonstrated build-and-ship ability.

What you may work on
  • Electrical engineering: sensor interfaces, analog/digital design, board bring‑up, validation, power and signal integrity
  • Software engineering: systems software, performance‑critical applications, tools, data pipelines, APIs, and platform integration
  • Firmware and embedded systems: low‑level drivers, RTOS, board support packages, hardware/software integration, test automation
  • FPGA / SystemVerilog: RTL development, verification, high‑speed data paths, sensor pipelines, and performance optimization
  • Android development: mobile applications for advanced sensing platforms, real‑time video, hardware integration, and user‑facing tools, ATAK
  • Optics and imaging: optical design, calibration, characterization, and camera development across LWIR, MWIR, SWIR, sCMOS, and visible systems
  • Navigation and ranging: GPS/GNSS receivers, timing, localization, tracking, and laser range finders
  • AI, perception, and autonomy: computer vision, sensor fusion, language models, edge inference, detection, tracking, and decision support
  • Other directly relevant disciplines: robotics, photonics, physics, applied math, imaging science, and related technical fields
Why this internship stands out

At Pixels on Target, you won’t be watching from the sidelines. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and technical leaders on high‑impact systems that span hardware, software, optics, and intelligent algorithms. This is a paid internship designed for serious builders and researchers who want to solve hard problems, move quickly, and contribute to technology with real‑world consequences.

You’ll be exposed to:
  • Research‑grade technical challenges with product relevance
  • Hands‑on development, testing, integration, and iteration
  • The chance to work on advanced sensing and vision systems from concept to execution
  • A highly selective environment built around top candidates in their field
Who should apply

We are looking for candidates who are technically strong, highly curious, and able to turn ideas into working systems.

Ideal candidates are:
  • Pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Optics, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field
  • Strong in at least one core technical discipline and excited by multidisciplinary work
  • Able to demonstrate exceptional work through research, thesis work, publications, lab experience, open‑source contributions, competitions, prototypes, or shipped products
  • Comfortable moving between theory and implementation, and between analysis and hands‑on execution
Who we’re looking for

We are selecting a limited number of top interns across disciplines. We care deeply about technical excellence, rigor, initiative, and evidence that you can build. Strong candidates often come from leading engineering and research programs, but what matters most is the quality of your work and the depth of your thinking.

Please submit your resume along with anything that showcases your best work:
  • GitHub or portfolio
  • Publications or thesis summary
  • Patents or technical papers

If you want an internship where your work goes beyond slides and into systems that see farther, think faster, and perform in the real world, Pixels on Target is the place to do it.
