Job description

Pixels On Target designs, manufactures, and supports uncooled thermal imaging sights, fire control systems, multi-sensor targeting systems, and electro-optical products for defense and public safety agencies. Our mission is simple: Deliver an Unfair Fight. We exist to ensure the men and women in uniform accomplish their mission and return home safely to their families.

Our VooDoo family of thermal weapon sights is fielded and in production, qualified to MIL-STD-810H. Our multi-sensor targeting and fire control products are in the hands of Five Eyes and NATO end users today. We are a small engineering team that owns the product from schematic to field support, and we hire accordingly.

The role

We are hiring an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to own the electrical architecture across our thermal sight, targeting, and fire control product lines. You will set the board-level design direction, run complex multilayer PCB programs from concept through qualification and production transition, and mentor a small team of engineers.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will be in the schematic, in the layout review, and in the lab with a scope on the bench. You will also be the person the program team looks to when a design decision has to be made and defended.

The work is on-site at our Sunrise, Florida headquarters. Hardware, lab equipment, environmental test, and the manufacturing floor are all here, and the job requires access to all of them.

What you will do
  • Own electrical architecture for uncooled thermal sights, multi-sensor targeting systems, and fire control products from requirements through production.
  • Lead complex multilayer PCB design programs end to end: architecture, schematic capture, layout direction, signal and power integrity, bring-up, debug, and design validation.
  • Design the sensor and image signal processing (ISP) electronics chain, including detector and ROIC interfaces, FPGA and SoC board design, and high-speed digital video paths for LWIR, MWIR, sCMOS, and CMOS sensors.
  • Architect power systems for battery-operated, weapon-mounted, and handheld devices. Own power conversion, sequencing, low-power and sleep-state design, runtime budgets, and the electrical side of the thermal budget.
  • Drive ruggedized design for MIL-STD-810H environmental and MIL-STD-461 EMI/EMC qualification. Support test campaigns, root-cause failures, and close them out.
  • Integrate laser rangefinders, IMU and GNSS subsystems, ballistic compute, and sensor fusion hardware into fielded targeting and fire control systems.
  • Partner with mechanical, optical, firmware, and software engineering to close system-level trades on size, weight, power, and cost.
  • Own design for manufacturability. Work with our manufacturing and quality teams on vendor qualification, in-process test, ICT and functional test fixtures, and production transition.
  • Lead design reviews, own the electrical design record, and hold the team to a documentation standard that survives an audit.
  • Mentor and technically direct two to four electrical engineers. Set priorities, review work, and grow the bench.
What you bring

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 10 or more years of professional electrical engineering experience, including 3 or more years leading designs, programs, or engineers.
  • Demonstrated ownership of complex multilayer PCB designs taken from concept through production, including high-speed digital and mixed-signal boards.
  • Strong command of schematic capture and PCB layout toolchains (Altium Designer or equivalent), and the discipline to drive a clean, reviewable design record.
  • Practical signal integrity, power integrity, grounding, and EMI mitigation skills applied to compact, densely packed assemblies.
  • Low-power and battery-powered system design experience, including power conversion topologies, sequencing, and runtime analysis.
  • Hands-on lab competence: oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, thermal camera, and the willingness to debug your own hardware.
  • Experience working alongside firmware and software engineers on embedded systems using interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, USB, MIPI, LVDS, and Ethernet.
  • Ability to work on-site in Sunrise, FL.
  • Must be a U.S. person as defined under ITAR (22 CFR 120.62). This role involves access to export-controlled technical data.

Preferred

  • Direct experience with infrared or electro-optical sensor systems, including detector and ROIC interfaces, ISP chains, and video pipelines.
  • FPGA or SoC board design experience (Xilinx, Lattice, or equivalent), including power, clocking, and configuration.
  • MIL-STD-810H and MIL-STD-461 qualification experience on fielded hardware.
  • Laser rangefinder, IMU, GNSS, or precision navigation hardware integration.
  • Defense, aerospace, or other regulated hardware environment with a working knowledge of configuration management and change control.
  • Experience transitioning designs into a domestic manufacturing line, including vendor qualification and test fixture development.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
Why this role

You will not be one electrical engineer among two hundred, working a slice of a subsystem you never see fielded. At Pixels you will own the electrical design of products that go downrange, and you will hear directly from the end users who carry them. Performance of a product is measured by the quality of End Users, and ours are demanding.

Compensation and benefits

Base salary range: $145,000 to $175,000 per year. Final offer is based on experience, demonstrated technical depth, and scope of prior leadership. Pixels offers medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, and a direct path to increasing technical and organizational scope as the engineering team grows.

Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate. This role is on-site in Sunrise, Florida, and we will help you get here.
