Job summary

Kidsave is seeking an energetic intern to support the Weekend Miracles Houston Program in a hybrid role based in Houston, TX. The internship offers a monthly stipend and involves tasks across program operations, outreach, and advocacy.

Interns gain experience assisting with events, materials, and family-host processes, under supervision, in a learning-focused environment that supports staff and volunteers.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in a college program or have at least 2 years of related college coursework completed.
• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced team environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
• Knowledge of Canva, ClickUp, and Salesforce is a plus but not required.

Position Type: Internship, Part-time or Full-time options

Internship Stipend: Monthly stipend of $500-$1000 (depending on commitment and degree level); academic credit available

Work Location: Houston, TX. Hybrid: in general, half-time remote and half-time at outreach, advocacy, and fundraising events.

To support the goals of the organization, Kidsave is currently seeking an energetic and organized intern to support its Weekend Miracles Houston Program.

The Weekend Miracles Program works to match older foster youth with host families who spend at least two days a month with the child. By mentoring and advocating for an older child in foster care, the host family has a direct role in helping him or her to find an adoptive family.

All intern contributions are supplemental to the work of Kidsave staff and are intended to enhance the intern's learning experience. Intern tasks are structured to provide exposure to nonprofit program operations, outreach, and advocacy. While interns may assist with administrative and programmatic activities, all work is performed under supervision and as part of a guided learning experience.

Learning Activities & Educational Experiences

• Attend advocacy events (during the week or on weekends) and assist with their coordination (Identify event locations, plan activities, prepare materials, create event flyers, advertise to communities, invite media, support event-day activities, and organize post-event photographs and documentation etc.).
• Assist with the creation, maintenance, and updating of program materials, advocacy flyers, spreadsheets, website postings and files for children and families.
• Assist with initial hosting inquiries and follow-up with prospective host families.
• Assist prospective host families throughout the application and training process.
• Observe and assist with the organization and filing of host family reports and learn how staff guide families through report completion.
• Assist with tracking required documents, deadlines, and follow-up communication with families.
• Participate alongside staff and volunteers in outreach, advocacy, and fundraising activities, gaining exposure to nonprofit community engagement strategies.
• Research outreach meetings and events with local companies and organizations to recruit hosts and adoptive families for program participation.
• Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate organization, professional communication, and timely follow-through on assigned responsibilities.
• Participate in other program-related learning activities and administrative support tasks as assigned, consistent with the goals and scope of the internship.

Supervision and Educational Structure

All interns will receive ongoing supervision and guidance from the Weekend Miracles Program Manager or a designated Kidsave staff member. Intern activities are structured to provide a meaningful educational experience aligned with academic and professional development goals. Interns will receive direction, feedback, and support throughout the duration of the internship. Interns will perform duties with appropriate supervision and will not be responsible for program operations, decision-making, or participant outcomes.

They must have the ability to multi-task and perform work in a fast-paced team environment, intermediate to advanced computer skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, stellar organizational skills, and an interest in Kidsave's mission.

The ability to quickly learn new software and tools is necessary for success.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as Adobe Acrobat is required.

Knowledge of Canva, Clickup, and Salesforce is preferred, but not required.

Educational / Additional Requirements:

• Must be currently enrolled in a college program (graduate or undergraduate) or have at least 2 years of related college coursework completed.
• Current and Valid Driver's License, Car Insurance, and reliable mode of transportation required (must be able to transport small and medium boxes of event supplies, as needed)
• Experience working with foster or at-risk youth (preferred)
• Experience working with Black, Latinx, and LGBTQIA+ audiences a plus.
• Must have availability during regular working business hours.
• Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
• Must have access to a printer.
