Interstate Waste Services, Inc. in the greater New York area seeks a skilled Tractor Trailer Chassis Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair intermodal chassis, trailers, and related equipment in a safety‑minded, fast‑paced environment.

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, ability to work independently, and a valid driver's license. IICL certification is preferred, and site credentials like TWIC/ERailSafe are required to access facilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 6 months of mechanical, fleet maintenance, trailer, or chassis repair experience required.
• Experience with intermodal chassis maintenance preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• IICL Chassis Inspector Certification preferred (or ability to obtain).
• Ability to obtain TWIC, ERailSafe, and other required site credentials.
• Basic knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations.

Responsabilités

• Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on chassis, trailers, and related equipment.
• Diagnose and repair brake, suspension, axle, electrical, wheel-end, and structural systems.
• Conduct annual, pre-repair, and post-repair inspections in compliance with AAR, IICL, FMCSA, DOT, and company standards.
• Identify and document equipment defects using mobile inspection technology.
• Perform quality control inspections and verify repairs are completed to standard.
• Address DVIR deficiencies and ensure equipment is safe and road-ready.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders.
• Operate company vehicles safely and comply with all company and safety policies.
• Support vendor audits, special projects, and other duties as assigned
