Job summary

The Associated Students in Vallejo, CA, seek an Intermittent Aquatics Instructor to teach a variety of aquatic classes at the Cal Poly Solano Campus. Candidates should possess knowledge of anatomy and certification in their field.

Responsibilities include developing lesson plans, supervising participants, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. The hourly pay is $22.50 for instruction, and $16.90 for preparation and meetings. Applicants must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

Previous experience is needed in an instructional environment.
Completion of Child Abuse Training and Live Scan screening is required.

Definition and Purpose

Under thesupervision of the Assistant Director—Recreational Programs and FacilityOperations,theIntermittent Aquatics Instructorsteach a variety of classes currently offered within the Group Exercise and Instructional Class Program.The staffis responsible fordevelopingindividual lessonplans, being familiar withvarious stylesof class formats offered, supervising class participants, and leading instructional sessions.

This position is based at the Cal Poly Maritime Academy on the Cal Poly Solano Campus in Vallejo, CA.

Educational and Qualifying Experience, Skills, Licenses, Credentials

Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, muscular function, exercise program implementation, safe group exercise, or instructional procedures and use of related class materials and/or equipment.
Professional instructor certification in related fieldor prior trainingpreferred
Ability to be highly organized and have good planning skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work with diverse populations and those with special limitations or needs.
Extensive knowledge of classes being taught.
Understanding ofcurrent trends in area of expertise.
Previousexperience in supervising and meeting participants in an instructional environment.
Ability to learn new formats.
Consistent attendance at continuing education workshops, lectures, and conferences.
Completion of Child Abuse Training prior toinstructing any programs involving minors.
Completion of Live Scan screening prior to instructing any programs involving minors.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise class participants.
Leadexercise/instructional sessions/classes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain familiarity with evacuationplanfor workarea.
Attend all mandatory meetings, workshops, and retreats.
Provide quality customer service for all staff and customers
Maintain prompt hours and follow absence procedures
Maintain a working relationship with staff and co-workers.
Adhere to and enforce all ASI departmental policies and procedures.
Commitment to student development and leadership.
Develop individual lesson plans.
Maintain instructional area at all times.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and isrequiredtocomply withthe requirementsset forth inASI policy as a condition of their employment.
Other duties as assigned.

Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) isrequiredfor employment. ASI will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current ASI employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Period of Employment

Employment with this organization is of an "at will" nature, which means that the employee may resign at anytimeand ASI may discharge the employee at any time with or without cause.

Compensation and Hours

Hourly Pay Rate: $22.50 per hour while instructing, $16.90per hour for meeting and prep time.
Hourly Pay Range: $16.90 per hour - $16.90 per hour for meeting and prep time, $22.50 per hour - $22.50 per hour for instruction time.
