Job Overview

Intermediate Care Tech – Military Medic and Corpsmen Program (Full‑Time). The role is part of the health care team, providing technical clinical services related to patient care, cleanliness, safety, and comfort for patients of all ages. Service is delivered through a team‑oriented, collaborative approach.

Candidate must be referred by the Virginia Department of Veterans Services – Military Medics and Corpsmen Program (MMAC) and have applied to MMAC first.

Key Responsibilities

• Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Manages patient flow using department/unit software and intranet.
• Performs interventions based on competencies and established protocols.
• Assists in behavioral/psychiatric situations, including crisis intervention and de‑escalation of aggressive or suicidal patients.
• Supports nursing and physicians with specialized procedures such as defibrillation, cardioversions, chest drainage tube insertion, and initiation of mechanical ventilation.
• Recognizes life‑threatening situations and acts to correct them per national or facility protocols.
• Operates specialized medical equipment (defibrillators, electrocardiographs, oxygen apparatus).
• Performs wound care, dressing changes, suture removal, IV insertion, NG/feeding tube and Foley catheter insertion, splinting, binding, and bandage application.
• Collects specimens (blood, tissue, urine, stool, sputum) for laboratory processing.
• Uses EMR for chart audits and documentation.
• Interprets and documents rhythm patterns, reports arrhythmias, and manages cardiac monitor equipment.
• Coordinates patient transportation between units, ensuring continuous monitoring en route.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living and ambulation.

Required Qualifications

• High School Graduate or equivalent.
• Graduate of the Military Emergency Medical Course.
• Honorable discharge within the last 12 months.
• Must be a corpsmen, combat medic, or air force medical technician.
• Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Organized, self‑motivated, and able to complete orientation and competency validation.

Licensure & Certifications

• BLS, ACLS, PALS within one year of hire.
