Job description

Since 1987, Dance Precisions has been Orange County's premier destination for dance education. Now in our 38th season, we serve dancers ages 2–18 across a full spectrum of training — from our Little Dancin' Shoes program for our youngest movers, to recreational Academy classes, Performance Teams, and championship-winning Competition Teams.

Our 20,000 sq ft facility in Anaheim Hills features six spacious studios with professional-grade sprung floors, and we offer classes in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hip Hop, Lyrical/Contemporary, K-Pop, and Tumbling. Our alumni have gone on to perform on Broadway, in film and television, and on tour with artists like Beyoncé, Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift.

We believe time spent in the studio shapes more than dancers: it develops confident, creative, and capable young people. Our research-backed curriculum integrates technique, artistry, injury-prevention conditioning, and leadership development.

Our Culture

We take quality seriously. In a crowded industry, it's easy to find a studio that teaches choreography; it's harder to find one that teaches dance. We're technique-first, we build fundamentals the right way, even when it's less flashy — because that's what gives our dancers the range to succeed anywhere they go next, whether that's a college program, a Broadway stage, or a world tour. We hire experienced professionals who can deliver real, structured training at every level, and we hold ourselves and our students to the standards we set.

We're equally serious about the experience we provide. Our goal is the best customer experience in the industry. That means a studio that's run professionally: accurate schedules, clear and consistent communication, and a facility (lobby, studios, café, front desk) that reflects the care we ask our dancers to bring to their work.

Our team reflects the same standards. Faculty lift each other up. We expect excellence and celebrate it when we see it. We invest in our people's growth, and many of our staff and families have been with us for years, some for decades. If you're the kind of person who takes pride in doing the work well and wants to be around others who do the same, you'll fit in here.

The Role

Tap is where rhythm, technique, and musicality come together, and we're looking for a teacher who can bring real chops to our intermediate and advanced classes. The Intermediate / Advanced Tap Teacher is responsible for delivering technically grounded tap classes for our Academy program and leading choreography for our advanced Company teams.

A typical week includes teaching intermediate and advanced Academy tap classes plus working with our Company dancers on competition and showcase pieces. You'll work closely with the Studio Director on programming, partner with our other faculty on dancer progression, and coordinate with the front desk team on scheduling and family communication. This role is for someone who takes tap technique seriously and wants to teach in a studio that does too.

This role reports to the Studio Director.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach with technique at the core — Deliver well-structured intermediate and advanced tap classes that build sound, clarity, speed, musicality, and improvisational vocabulary. Lessons should be planned, progressively challenging, and rooted in real tap fundamentals.
  • Choreograph for Academy and Company — Develop original choreography for recital pieces and competition routines for our advanced Company teams. Choreography should challenge dancers technically while remaining performance-ready and competitive.
  • Deliver detailed, technique-focused feedback — Give every dancer specific, actionable corrections on sound, clarity, weight transfer, and musicality. Generic praise is not enough. Our families expect their dancers to be seen, corrected, and grown.
  • Show up on time, every time — Arrive a minimum of 10 minutes prior to class start, prepared and ready to teach. When a conflict is unavoidable, you are responsible for securing a qualified substitute teacher in advance and getting them vetted and approved by studio leadership before the class.
  • Communicate proactively with students, parents, and staff — Keep families informed about progress, expectations, costumes, rehearsals, and recital and competition logistics. Respond to parent and front-desk inquiries promptly and professionally. Clear, consistent communication is non-negotiable.
  • Participate fully in the rehearsal and recital process — Attend rehearsals, dress runs, recital weekend, and competitions. Coordinate with the choreography team, music selections, costume decisions, and stage logistics so every dancer is prepared and supported on performance day.
Qualifications
Required
  • Strong tap teaching experience — Prior experience teaching intermediate and advanced tap at a studio or training program. Track record of developing dancers with clean technique and competition or performance results.
  • Serious tap technique and choreographic ability — Deep grounding in rhythm tap and Broadway tap, fluent across vocabulary and tempos. Choreographic experience for both showcase and competition contexts. Musicality is non-negotiable.
  • Availability and presence — Available weekday afternoons/evenings and select Saturdays, with full availability through recital and competition season. Comfortable working with dancers from upper Academy through advanced Company levels.
  • Competition team experience — Competition-team coaching experience with placements at regional or national levels.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must pass a background check (required for all staff working with minors).
