Job Description for Senior Architect at HOK

In partnership with the Sr. Project Manager and Sr. Project Designer, the Senior Architect is responsible for project financial performance, team communication, and the supervision of document production. They will oversee technical content, coordinate disciplines including consultants, and ensure quality assurance during construction phases. The role requires a licensed architect who will sign and seal drawings and contribute to a culture of technical excellence.

Responsibilities
Leadership
  • Ensure the design intent is incorporated into detailed documentation.
  • Monitor the design process from concept through construction administration.
  • Lead technical resolution and coordination for project portions.
  • Develop specifications and coordinate drawings and specifications.
  • Review reports, plans, estimates, and calculations for accuracy.
  • Define document production strategies and manage BIM data organization.
  • Set up project software parameters and standards.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with project teams.
  • Coordinate with disciplines, vendors, and contractors to incorporate all information.
  • Ensure documentation quality aligns with QA/QC standards.
  • Supervise technical drawing preparation by junior staff.
  • Lead certain projects and mentor less experienced staff.
  • Promote sustainable work practices and client service excellence.
Client Interface
  • Build positive, trust-based relationships with client leadership.
  • Communicate regularly with client representatives regarding project status and requirements.
Teamwork
  • Receive direction from Principal in Charge and Technical Principal.
  • Coordinate documentation and track project files.
  • Assist in planning, modifications, and approvals.
  • Prepare reports, coordinate with consultants, and support project communication.
  • Participate in site visits, reviews, and meetings.
  • Assist with material research and specification setup.
  • Support team members across disciplines and participate in project management tasks.
Business Development
  • Participate in meetings targeting new project opportunities.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or equivalent; master's preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of design experience.
  • Licensed Architect with current registration; NCARB registration preferred.
  • LEED accreditation or Green Associate preferred.
