Job description

At Gensler, we design for people. We leverage our global perspective and local presence to innovate at every scale. Fueled by passion and entrepreneurial spirit, our people intensely collaborate to develop innovative ideas to solve challenging problems. Our Oakland studio has a thriving architectural and interiors practice focusing on providing innovative solutions for large, complex commercial buildings, repositioning projects for developer and technology clients and interiors for professional service, life science and technology clients as well as a growing practice in healthcare. Through our integrated inside-out design approach, we impact both the people working in our buildings and the surrounding community with our inspirational and thought leading design solutions.

Your Role

As a Gensler Architect, you will collaborate with a team of architects and interior designers to develop design solutions as well as coordinate the design through the construction administration phase of a project. You will be successful because you already know how to develop interior design solutions, translate sketches and documents into realized 3D models and construction drawings and can research technical issues when they arise. You have coordinated with consultants such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing and structural engineers on pushing forward design driven solutions. Your work ethic, combined with your commitment to collaboration and mentoring, makes Gensler the perfect place to nurture your career.

What You Will Do

  • Design and plan complex interior architectural projects of varying types

  • Work in all phases of design through construction administration

  • Manage and lead the client, the design team, consultants, contractors, fabricators, regulatory agencies and other vendors to meet overall project objectives.

  • Ideally have Design-Build Project Experience

  • Produce BIM models and construction drawings in Revit

  • Resolve challenging technical and design issues with the team to produce innovative, technical and constructible solutions.

  • Flexibility to focus on concurrent projects in various stages of development for both interiors and core & shell projects.

  • A quick learner with an ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment

  • Effective communicator, collaborative and team-conscious.

  • Provide Mentorship and coaching to grow junior staff members

  • Participate in office culture and drive office initiatives

  • Interest in growing outside of project work, including participating with the local design community and/or professional organizations

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited school

  • Must be actively pursuing or are already a licensed architect in the State of California

  • 5+ years of experience in the profession of commercial interiors architectural design

  • Experience managing multiple aspects of client, team, and project coordination, including full documentation coordination with structural, MEP, lighting, AV, landscape, and civil consultants

  • Experience working directly with trade partners and contractors

  • Experience resolving complex technical and design issues

  • Proficiency with Revit, Bluebeam, and Adobe Creative Suite

  • Understanding of how buildings are constructed and ability to create technical documents that succinctly, thoroughly, and accurately describe the work to be done

  • Knowledge of California building codes, standards and building structures

  • Understanding of sustainable and universal design concepts

  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication and relationship management skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and sustainable building practices required. Portfolios should include at least 1 project with this particular focus, and candidates should be prepared to talk to this in their interview, especially built projects with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwel and /or Net Zero Building certification

**The base salary will be estimated between $90,000 - $126,000 plus bonuses and benefits and contingent on relevant experience.
