Job summary

Common Thread Interiors, a boutique studio based in Chestertown, MD, seeks an Interior Designer to work on residential and commercial projects from concept through installation. You’ll join a collaborative team and partner with the Founder & Creative Director to shape spaces with thoughtful detail.

This role involves hands-on involvement from client meetings to final styling, with 12–18 hours per week; in-house design days are Tue–Thu, with flexibility for on-site meetings Mon and Fri.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of interior design experience (3 years preferred).
• Strong portfolio demonstrating thoughtful, well-executed design work.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD or another CAD program is a plus.
• Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• A valid driver's license for local site visits.

Common Thread Interiors is a boutique interior design studio based in Chestertown, Maryland, creating timeless residential interiors while expanding our commercial portfolio. As our studio continues to grow, we're looking for an Interior Designer who wants to grow with us.

This isn't a position where you'll simply make selections and pass a project along. Our designers are involved from the first client meeting through the final installation, taking ownership of every detail while working collaboratively with the entire team.

What You’ll Do

As an Interior Designer, you'll partner closely with the Founder & Creative Director to develop and execute residential and commercial interior design projects from concept through installation.

You'll contribute creative ideas, collaborate throughout every phase of the design process, and help bring beautiful, functional spaces to life. Every project at Common Thread Interiors is a collaborative effort, with designers encouraged to contribute ideas while refining each project together to ensure it reflects the vision and standards of the studio.

Your responsibilities will include:

Our ideal candidate will have:

• 2–3 years of interior design experience (3 years preferred)
• A strong portfolio demonstrating thoughtful, well-executed design work (portfolio required)
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or another CAD program is a plus, but not required
• Working knowledge of construction, detailing, furnishings, and interior materials
• Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
• Confidence managing multiple projects simultaneously
• Professional communication skills with clients, vendors, contractors, architects, and trades
• A collaborative mindset and genuine desire to continue learning
• A valid driver's license for local site visits

Pay starts at $30/hour, commensurate with experience, for approximately 12–18 hours per week based on project needs. In-house design days are Tuesday through Thursday, with flexibility for on-site meetings on Mondays and Fridays. Project management tasks—such as emails, order tracking, and vendor follow-ups—may be completed remotely. Workdays begin at 9:00 a.m. with end times based on workload. After six months, employees receive tiered access to CTI’s trade discounts based on average hours worked.
