Job summary

Destination Homes seeks an Interior Designer to support the Design team in developing brand-forward interiors and exteriors across communities. You will manage finishes, color palettes, and presentation materials while coordinating with Sales, Drafting, Preconstruction, Marketing, and external partners.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor's degree in interior design or related field preferred.
• 2+ years of relevant design experience; residential design or construction preferred.
• Ability to read floor plans and elevations and interpret design documents.
• Working knowledge of design software such as Bluebeam, PowerPoint, SketchUp, Excel.

Responsibilities

Interior Designer

Reports to: Director of Design

Job Description

The Interior Designer supports the Destination Homes Design team in maintaining and advancing the company’s brand through thoughtful interior and exterior design, organization, and forward-thinking solutions across all communities, while ensuring our homes remain fresh, marketable, and thoughtfully designed with selections that balance current trends, longevity, and affordability. This role contributes to the development of elevations, finish palettes, and presentation materials while working closely with Director of Design, Sales, Drafting, Preconstruction, Marketing, Purchasing, and external partners. The successful candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative. This position requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, communicate clearly, and follow design direction while helping move projects forward on tight timelines.

Primary Duties

• Support the Director of Design with palette finish selections and updates, ensuring palette documentation and look books are always current.
• Design and render exterior color schemes for Architectural Review Board submittal, following community specific guidelines and approved materials.
• Enter finishes, colors, and palette data into internal software systems accurately and on time in accordance with the home starts calendar.
• Re-select materials when products are discontinued or backordered, and work closely with the Purchasing Team to complete any necessary change orders withing a timely manner.
• Collaborate with Sales and Marketing team to ensure design look books and website content remain current and reflect approved design selections.
• Assist the Land Team in preparing design related presentations for city approval.
• Maintain an organized and relevant sample library, discarding materials no longer in use.
• Participate in inter-department meetings, cultivating positive relationships while focusing on the development of best business practices and company growth.
• Visit communities, model homes, and construction sites to observe progress, gather information, and identify opportunities to improve design related processes.
• Assist with model home design and staging, de-staging sold model homes, and coordinating the relocation, organization, and storage of model home furnishings.
• Help maintain process documentation and shared resources for the Design team.
• Make informed and thoughtful design decisions based on finish material product knowledge and familiarity with residential design trends.
• Perform other duties as required.

Experience & Skills

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in interior design, architecture, design, or a related field preferred.
• 2+ years of relevant design experience; residential design, homebuilding, new home sales, or construction experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret floor plans, elevations, finish schedules, and other design documents preferred.
• Basic knowledge of residential design principles, materials, furnishings, and construction processes.
• Working knowledge of design and presentation software (Bluebeam, PowerPoint, SketchUp, Excel)
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
• Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
• Ability to receive direction, incorporate feedback, and work independently as skills develop.
• Collaborative and service-oriented approach when working with internal and external partners.
• Strategic and creative thinker with a keen eye for proportion, function, quality, and design consistency.

Physical Requirements

• Primarily an in-office position, with frequent walking, standing, and climbing stairs in/around construction sites, models, and properties.
• Must have the ability to read and comprehend large quantities of information, operate computer equipment, speak, hear, bend, stoop, reach, lift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs. independently.
• Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about office setting.
• To perform other duties as required.
