Job summary

Summary The Interior Decking Installer is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining specialty flooring and decking systems in maritime, industrial, and customer environments. This position performs surface preparation, layout, material installation, finishing, and related flooring activities in support of project schedules, quality requirements, and customer expectations

• Install, repair, and maintain chemical resistant flooring systems.
• Install and finish broadcast terrazzo flooring systems.
• Install, repair, and replace carpet systems and related flooring materials.
• Install, repair, and maintain ceramic, porcelain, quarry, and specialty tile flooring systems.
• Install, repair, and maintain Amtico, resilient flooring, electrical grade matting, and static-dissipative flooring systems.
• Perform surface preparation activities including grinding, sanding, shot blasting, scraping, cleaning, and leveling of substrates.
• Measure, layout, cut, and fit flooring materials in accordance with project specifications, drawings, and work instructions.
• Mix, prepare, and apply adhesives, grouts, mortars, epoxy systems, sealants, and other specialty flooring materials.
• Remove and replace existing flooring and decking systems in accordance with project requirements and applicable regulations.
• Inspect completed work and perform quality checks to verify compliance with contract requirements, specifications, and workmanship standards.
• Work independently or as part of a team to complete assigned work activities in support of project schedules and production objectives.
• Complete required production documentation, inspections, reports, and quality control records.
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Install, repair, and maintain chemical resistant flooring systems.
• Install and finish broadcast terrazzo flooring systems.
• Install, repair, and replace carpet systems and related flooring materials.
• Install, repair, and maintain ceramic, porcelain, quarry, and specialty tile flooring systems.
• Install, repair, and maintain Amtico, resilient flooring, electrical grade matting, and static-dissipative flooring systems.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Attributes

• Knowledge of flooring and decking installation methods, materials, tools, and equipment.
• Knowledge of chemical resistant flooring systems, terrazzo systems, tile systems, resilient flooring products, and related materials.
• Knowledge of surface preparation methods and substrate requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, work instructions, and technical documentation.
• Ability to measure, layout, cut, fit, and install flooring materials accurately.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and surface preparation equipment.
• Ability to identify workmanship deficiencies and perform quality inspections.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work in shipyard, industrial, and marine environments.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Education And Experience

• Highschool Diploma or equivalent
• Experience installing one or more of the following systems: Chemical Resistant Flooring, Broadcast Terrazzo, Carpet Systems, Tile Systems, Amtico Flooring, Electrical Grade Matting, or similar specialty flooring products.
• Shipyard, maritime, industrial, government, military, or construction experience preferred.
• OSHA 10 Maritime certification preferred; may be obtained after hire.
• Shipyard Competent Person certification preferred.
• Experience working aboard U.S. Navy vessels preferred.
• Experience with NAVSEA Standard Items and military specifications preferred.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

• Work is conducted in shipyards, dry docks, vessels, customer facilities, industrial environments, and other operational work locations.
• Regular exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, airborne particles, dust, fumes, hazardous machinery, chemicals, wet and/or humid conditions, outdoor weather conditions, confined spaces, elevated work areas, and other conditions commonly found in industrial and maritime environments.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• May be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, balance, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods.
• May be required to climb ladders, scaffolding, gangways, and other means of access commonly found aboard vessels and in shipyard environments.
• Must be able to move throughout vessels, shipyards, customer facilities, and project sites to perform installation, repair, maintenance, inspection, and related work activities.
• May be required to work in confined spaces, elevated work areas, and aboard vessels.
• May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for shipyard, industrial, customer, and maritime work environments.
• Position may require shift work, travel, overtime, weekends, and extended hours to support project schedules and operational requirements.

EQUIPMENT USED

• Hand tools, power tools, and specialty flooring installation tools.
• Surface preparation equipment, including grinders, sanders, scarifiers, shot blasting equipment, vacuum systems, and related machinery.
• Flooring and decking installation equipment, including rollers, mixers, applicators, cutters, stretchers, and related specialty tools.
• Measuring and layout equipment, including tape measures, levels, laser levels, chalk lines, and other precision measuring tools.
• Material handling equipment, including pallet jacks, dollies, hand trucks, and forklifts when authorized.
• Personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for shipyard, industrial, maritime, and customer work environments.
