The Pegasus School seeks an enthusiastic and student-centered Long-Term Substitute Physical Education Teacher for an anticipated assignment from November 16, 2026 through mid-February 2027. This on-site role will serve Grades 3–8, delivering engaging PE lessons and promoting fitness, teamwork, and healthy habits.

Responsibilities include adapting activities for developmental levels, ensuring safety, and collaborating with Lower/Middle School teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in physical education, kinesiology, education, sports science, or a related field.
• Teaching credential, substitute teaching permit, or other appropriate California authorization.
• Previous experience teaching physical education, coaching, or working with school-age children.
• Experience working with students across a range of developmental and athletic abilities.
• Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to differentiate activities so that students with varying skill levels can participate meaningfully and safely.
• A collaborative, flexible, and student-centered approach.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain certification if required.

Responsabilités

• Plan and deliver engaging physical education lessons aligned with the School’s existing curriculum and program goals.
• Teach fundamental movement skills, individual fitness activities, cooperative games, team sports, cardiovascular fitness, coordination, and other age-appropriate physical activities.
• Create an inclusive environment in which students of varying skill levels can participate successfully, build confidence, and experience growth.
• Reinforce the value of physical fitness, healthy habits, teamwork, perseverance, fair play, and good sportsmanship.
• Establish clear expectations and maintain effective routines for student behavior, participation, and safety.
• Provide appropriate instruction, demonstrations, feedback, and modifications based on students’ developmental needs and abilities.
• Monitor students closely during physical activity and maintain a safe environment during classes and transitions.
• Assess student participation, skill development, and progress as appropriate within the existing program.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues, Division Directors, and other members of the School community.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and model the School’s expectations for respectful and responsible behavior.
• Perform other related responsibilities associated with supporting the physical education program during the assignment.
