Job summary

Council on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse is seeking an interim Sr. HR Generalist for approximately six months to provide HR support and supervise a full-time HR Assistant.

The role covers recruitment, onboarding, payroll coordination, benefits, leaves, performance management, training, and employee relations in a nonprofit Santa Barbara setting. Candidates should have a BA/BS in Business or related field, 3+ years HR Generalist experience, and proficiency with HRIS/payroll systems (prefer Paychex).

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Business, Management or equivalent experience required.
• HRCI or SHRM Human Resources Certification preferred.
• A minimum of 3 years of HR Generalist experience required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Sign, SharePoint, and video conferencing required.
• Experience with HRIS and Payroll Systems required, preferably Paychex.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working in a non-profit environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversees Recruitment, On-Boarding and Off-Boarding with HR Assistant support.
• Review timecards and support payroll processes; liaise with third-party payroll reps.
• Manage salary structures, benefits programs, and annual open enrollment.
• Process Leaves & Accommodations; maintain records.
• Develop performance-review processes and support managers on issues.
• Identify training needs and coordinate development programs.
• Address employee relations, conflicts, grievances; support disciplinary actions.
• Create and maintain HR policies, handbooks, and leave policies.
• Forecast staffing needs and assist with workforce planning.
• Drive employee engagement and retention initiatives; monitor turnover/metrics.
• Maintain HR records and leverage HR metrics for decisions.
• Support safety programs and wellbeing initiatives; coordinate with specialists.
• Advise leadership on people-related decisions to align with goals.
• Occasional travel to other CADA sites; collaborate across departments.
