Major, Lindsey & Africa is assisting with an Interim General Counsel position for an insurance company. Remote, United States. 30 hours per week. JD required; 10+ years of legal experience with U.S. insurance regulatory matters preferred. You will lead governance, regulatory compliance, and contract negotiations to support strategic business objectives.

Candidate should have strong regulatory liaison skills and a proven track record in insurance industry filings, memoranda, and policy matters.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school.
• 10+ years of legal experience with at least five years in U.S. insurance and regulatory matters.
• Experience in corporate governance and record keeping.
• Experience with annuity and life insurance filings and compliance.
• Interaction with state insurance regulators.
• Drafting and negotiating a wide range of business contracts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead corporate governance, corporate legal matters, and internal compliance initiatives.
• Lead insurance regulatory and compliance matters, including suitability, policy wordings and endorsements, applications, policyholder notices, ancillary agreements and advertising and marketing.
• Liaise with state regulators and support regulatory inquiries and filings.
• Draft, review, and negotiate general business contracts and advise internal stakeholders on legal risks.

BACKGROUND

• JD from an accredited law school and admitted to practice in at least one state.
• Ten or more years of legal experience, including at least five years of experience with the U.S. insurance industry and insurance regulatory matters.
• Demonstrated experience in:
• corporate governance and record keeping.
• annuity and life insurance company filings and compliance.
• interacting with state insurance regulators; and
• drafting and negotiating a wide range of business contracts.

Pay Rate

$135/Hour

Individual compensation offered for this position within the pay range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
