Job summary

Vaco by Highspring seeks an Interim Fractional Assistant Controller to provide accounting leadership during a temporary leave, overseeing month-end close and global consolidations across U.S. and European time zones.

The role requires a CPA or progress toward one, strong U.S. GAAP knowledge, and experience coordinating outsourced accounting across international teams. Remote-first, with a duration of roughly 4–6 months and potential for bonuses and full benefit participation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
• Progressive accounting experience with ownership of month-end close and financial statement prep.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, multi-entity consolidations, intercompany accounting, and foreign currency translation.
• Experience overseeing outsourced accounting resources and coordinating with international teams.
• Strong spreadsheet and accounting systems capabilities; ability to automate workflows.

Responsibilities

• Strengthen processes, reporting workflows, and internal controls; document decisions.
• Document key processes for smooth transition at engagement end.

Interim Fractional Assistant Controller

Our client, a digital media and technology company, is seeking an Interim Fractional Assistant Controller to provide accounting leadership and continuity during a temporary leave period.

This role is fully remote, with collaboration required across U.S. and European time zones. The role has an anticipated duration of approximately 4 to 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Lead the month-end close across domestic and international entities, ensuring accurate and timely completion of accounting deliverables
• Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
• Produce consolidated financial statements and management reporting packages
• Manage foreign currency translation, intercompany activity, and multi-entity consolidation reporting
• Serve as the primary accounting escalation point and provide guidance on technical and operational accounting matters
• Coordinate with outsourced accounting teams and international advisors, reviewing deliverables for accuracy and completeness
• Oversee accounts payable, expense management, and other operational accounting activities across multiple entities
• Support year-end close, statutory reporting, and other recurring compliance requirements
• Partner with executive leadership to provide financial analysis and assess the accounting implications of business changes
• Strengthen accounting processes, reporting workflows, internal controls, and documentation while maintaining business continuity
• Document key processes, decisions, and outstanding matters to support a seamless transition at the end of the engagement

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred
• Progressive accounting experience with demonstrated ownership of the month-end close and financial statement preparation
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, multi-entity consolidations, intercompany accounting, and foreign currency translation
• Experience overseeing outsourced accounting resources and coordinating deliverables across international teams
• Strong spreadsheet and accounting systems capabilities, with the ability to improve workflows through automation and technology
• Ability to work independently in a fractional capacity and manage a workload concentrated around close and reporting deadlines
