Job summary

AMN Healthcare Leadership Solutions | B.E. Smith seeks an Interim Director of Surgical Services to lead operations at a large Winchester, Virginia hospital.

The leader will oversee 22 operating rooms, a six-room ambulatory surgery center, one procedure room, and four endoscopy suites, reporting to system perioperative leadership. The ideal candidate will have substantial surgical services leadership experience, strong physician relationships, and the business acumen to guide improvements.

Interim Director of Surgical Services Needed in Winchester, Virginia!

The Position

• An Interim Director of Surgical Services is needed to lead surgical operations at a large hospital in Winchester, Virginia.
• The scope includes 22 operating rooms, a six-room ambulatory surgery center, one procedure room, and four endoscopy suites.
• Reporting to the Senior Director of System Perioperative Services, this leader will oversee approximately 240 FTEs, including five managers.
• Key responsibilities include managing day-to-day clinical operations and staffing; partnering with surgeons and staff to maintain safe, high-quality care; mentoring managers; and improving surgical access and case volume through block time optimization, scheduling, and performance data.
• The ideal candidate will have substantial surgical services leadership experience, strong relationships with physicians, and the business acumen to guide operational improvements. This leader should engage a tenured team, address resistance to change, and build accountability. Must be highly organized, patient-focused, and able to adapt quickly to changing needs. Excellent communication skills will be critical.
• Must be available to start within 2-3 weeks of acceptance.

Requirements

Compensation Details

• Compensation Range: $180,000 to $190,000 annually.
• The final compensation rate will be determined based on experience, education, training, location, internal equity, and budget considerations, in accordance with Fair Market Value evaluation. Additionally, some candidates may be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, depending on the specific role, including but not limited to health insurance coverage and retirement benefits.
• The listed base compensation range represents a good faith estimate of potential earnings at the time of this job posting and may be subject to future adjustments.
