Job summary

BrainWorks is seeking an Interim Controller for a start-up in Clean Energy Construction. This remote position requires ownership of the accounting cycle, cash flow forecasting, and ERP setup. Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance, with 8+ years experience and the ability to build an accounting function from scratch.

• 8+ years of general accounting experience required.
• Experience creating an accounting function from scratch in a start-up environment.
• Experience in the utilities, clean energy, and/or construction industry.

Job description

We’re working with an exciting start-up company in the Clean Energy Construction space that is looking to bring on an Interim Controller to assist through the start-up period. This company is focused on building new homes with fully integrated energy infrastructure. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building an accounting function from scratch to set a company up for future success.

This is a remote position, however, candidates in El Paso, TX or within a short/direct drive or flight to El Paso will be shown preference due to location.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Ownership of the full monthly accounting cycle and monthly close function
• Cash Flow forecasting and monthly Financial Reporting
• Process documentation to ensure processes are fully documented for future use
• ERP set-up from scratch, including creating a chart of accounts

Must Have Experience:

• Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance
• 8+ years of general accounting experience
• Experience creating an accounting function from scratch in a start-up environment including setting up the accounting system
• Experience supporting the CFO with basic finance functions. For example: creating budgets/forecasts, maintain budget vs actual reporting & variance analysis, etc. (No advanced modeling needed)
• Experience in the utilities, clean energy, and/or construction industry
• Experience with Joint Venture accounting
• Experience setting up the proper legal structure of a start-up company with consideration to both corporate tax issues and ownership/personal tax issues
• Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

• CPA preferred
• Experience with non-profit accounting, specifically 501c(6)
• Experience working with investment partners or other PE/VC type investors
