Our client is looking for an experienced Interim Controller for a 5-6 month hybrid engagement in Linn County, Oregon. The ideal candidate will be local, with manufacturing experience, and available to start immediately. As a key partner to Private Equity ownership, this role is responsible for modernizing the finance function, driving audit-ready financials, and providing the margin transparency needed to support rapid strategic growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Modernizing the Close: Overhaul the current 15–18 day month-end close process. Implement efficiencies to significantly reduce cycle time and ensure a seamless hand-off to the Finance/FP&A group.
- Advanced Cost Accounting: Direct all cost accounting and inventory activities across a multi-site network. Partner with external consultants to refine project pricing, overhead measurement, and allocation.
- Audit & Controls: Act as the primary liaison for external auditors. While the most recent audit was clean, the Controller will continue to strengthen GAAP compliance and internal controls.
- Systems Optimization: Leverage the newly implemented Infor M3 ERP (launched Sept) and Redzone shop-floor systems. Ensure data integrity across global regions (US, China, Germany) to facilitate consolidation.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead a team of 5–10 professionals. Move away from the legacy hub and spoke management style to a model that empowers staff and fosters accountability.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience: 10+ years of progressive accounting experience; 3+ years in a Controller/Asst. Controller role within manufacturing.
- Technical Mastery: Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP, inventory valuation (WIP/Finished Goods), and variance analysis (PPV, labor, overhead).
- PE Background: Experience operating within a Private Equity-backed portfolio company is highly desirable.
- Change Management: Proven track record of breaking down departmental silos and leading teams through ERP implementations or significant organizational shifts.
Cultural & Operational Context
- The Challenge: The incoming Controller must be a Change Agent who can engage a team that has historically been resistant to new processes.
- The Goal: Shift the department to be more customer-focused (internally and externally) and collaborative.
- The Team Structure: Direct reports include the Manager of Accounting (overseeing AR/AP, Staff, and Coordinator), a Cost Accountant, and a Payroll lead (managing an outsourced provider).
