Friends’ Central School is an independent, coeducational Quaker day school founded in 1845 and serving approximately 880 students in Nursery through grade 12. Located in the Philadelphia suburbs, the School has two campuses. The Middle & Upper Schools are located just outside of
West Philadelphia in Wynnewood, and the Lower School is on our Old Gulph Road campus in the heart of Wynnewood.

Athletic Trainer
The Athletic Trainer will provide oversight for the treatment, prevention, rehabilitation, and conditioning of all student-athletes at Friends’ Central School (FCS). FCS is home to 25 Varsity, nine Junior Varsity and Third teams, and 25 Middle School teams, in addition to several club sport
program options.


Duties and Responsibilities
● Provide preventative care to all FCS student-athletes and visiting team student-athletes, and support coaches by caring for players’ sport-related injuries
● Verify, review, and organize student-athlete physicals and consent forms with the School Nurse
● Assess, treat, and manage sport injuries, including concussions. At the beginning of every school year, the athletic-trainer will administer the ImPACT Baseline Concussion test, in addition to any post- concussion testing if required.
● Provide on-campus strength and conditioning and physical therapy for student-athletes
● Establish and maintain a budget for athletic training supplies/equipment
● Maintain adequate and confidential medical records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures
● Support classroom instruction in 7th and 10th grade health and conduct seasonal information sessions for student-athletes, coaches and broader FCS community
● Comply with any and all policies regarding health care delivery as indicated by the School policy, and enforce all school policies and procedures
● Administration and other duties as assigned by the supervisor Required/Desired Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills Creative and enthusiastic, the Athletic Trainer will enjoy working with a diverse group of learners. They will be able to solve problems with discernment while maintaining confidentiality of students,familial, and organizational information. Initiative, dependability, and a strong inclination for collaboration are key attributes to the success of the candidate.
● Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge about a large range of medical problems. Assessment and evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be needed.
● Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return to play decisions per best practices and state licensure guidelines while maintaining a professional demeanor and work space.
● Attention to Detail: Using Veracross and Magnus Health systems, should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
● Interpersonal Skills: Effective verbal and written communication in high stress/pressure situations when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff, and families. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coaches, athletic administrators, FCS faculty and staff, students, parents/caregivers/families, and the community.

Qualifications

Required Education and Qualifications
● Bachelor’s of Science in a health-related field with CAATE accreditation required; Master’s degree preferred
● BOC certification and state athletic training licensure, certificate, or registration and NPI number required
● CPR/First Aid and AED certification required
● National Athletic Trainers Association membership
● CSCS or NSCA-CPT certification required. FCS will support candidates who are actively pursuing this certification
● Prior successful athletic trainer experience, required three years and prefer five years minimum at the high school and/or college level
● Child welfare and criminal background clearances will be required of the successful applicant. Travel and Physical Requirements:
● The Athletic trainer may travel with a team or serve as trainer for Friends School League (FSL) or Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association (PAISAA) events, which could require travel to off-campus locations.
● Work demand is medium-high. Lifting 100 pounds+ with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects. Medium strength is required to position patients for examination. May assist patients as needed, helping them on and off the exam table.
● Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Supervision
Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Wellness, this interim, exempt Athletic Trainer position has a start date of August 13th and concludes on December 5th, 2025.
