Job summary

Avantus in San Diego, CA, seeks an Associate, Transmission & Interconnection to drive interconnection strategy for utility-scale solar/storage projects. You’ll manage the interconnection process from inception through Commercial Operation in ISOs (CAISO, ERCOT, SPP) and WECC markets, coordinating with cross-functional teams and regulators.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years’ related experience in interconnection and project development or transmission planning
• Deep understanding of CAISO and WECC utilities tariffs, interconnection processes, transmission service processes
• Ability to work autonomously at a dynamic pace, manage milestones, and prioritize several projects
• Ability to read and negotiate long legal contracts (Interconnection Agreements, Power Purchase Agreements, Independent Engineer Reports)
• Experience developing relationships with utilities, ISO/RTOs, and regulators
• Strong capability in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Earth

Responsibilities

• Lead projects through the interconnection process from inception to Commercial Operation across ISOs and markets
• Evaluate tariffs, costs, timelines, queue, and processes; provide strategy to project teams
• Coordinate interconnection applications, studies, agreements, and milestone execution
• Negotiate interconnection study results and agreements with utilities for favorable outcomes
• Communicate with utilities/ISOs and track interconnection progress to stay on schedule and within budget
• Identify optimal interconnection locations based on multi-criteria analysis
• Track tariff changes and updates to business practice manuals
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on interconnection milestones
