Job summary

Voyageur Outward Bound School seeks an Instructor for the Intercept program, based in Ely, MN. This seasonal field position runs May–August with pre-employment training and ongoing field work under the supervision of Course Directors and Lead Instructors.

Instructors work as part of a team to facilitate wilderness expeditions, model OB values, and support diverse student populations, including youth and young adults between 14 and 25. Training and safety protocols are emphasized.

Responsibilities

• Program Delivery & Implementation: design and implement nature-based expeditions aligned with Outward Bound mission.
• Demonstrate and model leadership, character and service values.
• Plan and logistics: curricula, route planning, food and equipment.
• Community Development: foster belonging and clear communication.
• Provide timely feedback and facilitate workshops with staff and parents where needed.
• Support basecamp living and daily upkeep of public spaces.
• Student Supervision & Safety: manage risk, behavior, group dynamics, and safety procedures.
• Contribute to field safety, emergency readiness, and on-call response.
• Other Duties as Assigned as needed.
