Job summary

Hillsdale County Intermediate School District is seeking an Intensive Support Program Paraprofessional to assist students with daily routines, 1:1 and small-group instruction, and behavioral support under the supervision of the classroom teacher.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist students in daily routines across classroom activities.
  • Assist in collecting data and completing daily reports for progress.
  • Initiate and follow through with behavioral interventions as designated by the teacher.
  • Communicate student progress and concerns to teachers.
  • Participate in planning meetings regarding curricular expectations and student needs.
  • Assist in 1:1 or small group instruction as directed by the teacher.

Job description

Intensive Support Program Paraprofessional
  • Monitor and assist students as needed in their daily routines across the classroom activities and/or settings.
  • Assist in collecting data and completing daily reports for behavioral or academic progress as requested by the teacher.
  • Initiate and follow through with behavioral interventions as designated and demonstrated by the classroom teacher.
  • Appropriately communicate student progress and/or concerns as requested by the teacher.
  • Participate in planning meetings regarding classroom curricular expectations as well as student needs across all developmental areas.
  • Assist and/or facilitate in teaching individuals in 1:1, small group, instruction as designated and demonstrated by the teacher.
  • Assist individual students as necessary to follow routines, follow directions, follow an individual schedule, and/or complete tasks.
  • Monitor students at all times including on/off the bus, lunch, and times of transition.
  • Meet students in the morning to unload buses and assist with loading or unloading as necessary
  • Assist with students requiring self-help skills in the areas of safety, eating, and toileting.
  • Facilitate the teaching procedures demonstrated by the classroom teacher for small groups including errorless learning and verbal behavior techniques.
  • Create materials as time allows and directed by the teacher.
  • Clean up after students as necessary and at the end of the day.
  • Prepare room daily for instruction in the morning or end of the day as designated by the teacher.
  • Assist in helping a student develop necessary skills in the general education environment.
  • Commitment to working with individuals with disabilities, especially those with significant academic and behavioral challenges.
  • Physical demands include: standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting and/or moving students and moving furniture
  • Demonstrate a pattern of excellent attendance
  • Ability and willingness to perform lifts and transfers and assist with personal care needs of students at assigned grade level
  • Flexibility to work in many different classrooms/environments.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and student matters.
  • Maintain professional communication with classroom staff, school administration and ancillary staff
  • Complete incident reports as needed
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to perform tasks that require physical strength, stamina and mobility, including standing, walking, bending, reaching and lifting and/or moving students
  • Skilled in the safe transfer of students using proper body mechanics and lifting aides for heavy or immobile individuals.
  • Ability to lift students with assistance or independently, based on protocols
  • Knowledge of techniques and strategies to de-escalate tense or volatile situations and CPI certified
  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals in person and over the phone.
  • Strong ability to understand and navigate technical systems
