Position Summary:

Under supervision of Director of eDiscovery and Paralegal Services, the IP Specialist must have substantive knowledge of patent and trademark prosecution laws, rules, and filing procedures, accurate data entry skills, proven organizational abilities, excellent attention to detail, and knowledge of spreadsheet and database programs. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as make decisions in accordance with policies and procedures. The position requires the ability to use critical thinking to problem-solve and effectively communicate with attorneys and staff at all levels across the firm. The IP Specialist will help lawyers with patents, trademarks, copyrights, and intellectual property filings and client correspondence. An IP Specialist will assist with a variety of cases in this field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Initial client intake and assessment
  • Prepare shells and/or help file applications for IP matters including patents, trademarks, copyrights, domain names, and designs.
  • Preparing supplemental documents and filings for patent prosecution matters including, but not limited to: application data sheets, declarations, assignments, office action response templates, information disclosure statements, issue fee transmittal, notices of appeal, appeal briefs, maintenance fee transmittals, etc. The ability to file PCT applications is a plus.
  • Prepare and file supplemental documents and filings for trademark prosecution matters, including but not limited to: office action response templates, assignments, specimens, statements of use, renewals, etc. The ability to file Madrid applications is a plus.
  • Prepare and file legal documents for cases involving intellectual property.
  • Maintain and generate docket reports for attorneys.
  • Create status, deadline, and other reports for client IP portfolios
  • Coordinate with clients via phone, email, video, and in-person meetings.
  • Verify matter status of pending patent and trademark applications with the US Patent & Trademark Office
  • Various administrative work and office oversight duties

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local Intellectual Property laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of docketing software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Accuracy, attention to detail and good organizational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to multi-task
  • Strong client service focus and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Various physical activity may be required
