State Farm's IP Section within the Corporate Law Department seeks a Paralegal to support patent, trademark, and copyright portfolios. You will work with attorneys, manage IP documents, and coordinate with internal clients and outside counsel.

The role requires IP docketing, research, and drafting, with hybrid in-office presence in Chicago and travel as needed. Proficiency with USPTO systems and IP tools is essential.

Qualifications

• Paralegal degree/certificate (or equivalent) and 3+ years Intellectual Property experience.
• Deep understanding of patent/trademark filing lifecycles, including hands-on experience preparing/filing new applications (U.S. and foreign), drafting Office Action responses, and managing filings (IDS, Statements of use).
• Proven ability to monitor, maintain, and clear complex docketing deadlines.
• Proficiency with USPTO electronic systems, including EFS-Web, Patent Center, and TEAS.
• Familiarity with IP docketing tools (FoundationIP, Anaqua, CPI).
• Experience performing IP risk reviews/clearance for business or marketing content, identifying potential trademark/copyright issues, and flagging matters for attorney review.
• Must comply with state paralegal codes and maintain confidentiality.

Responsabilités

• Assist counsel with drafting and filing patent, trademark, and copyright documents.
• Review marketing and business-area content to identify potential IP issues and advise attorney review.
• Monitor trademark watch and clearance services; triage issues and summarize risks for attorney review.
• Draft cease and desist letters under attorney direction/supervision.
• Support UDRP matters, including domain research and deadline tracking for filings and responses.
• Conduct legal and factual research and prepare summaries for attorney review.
• Respond to inquiries from internal departments and external associates.
• Use IP docketing and case management systems to manage matters and deadlines.
• Travel to job-related activities as needed and maintain paralegal competency.
