Job summary
State Farm’s Corporate Law Department, Intellectual Property Section, seeks a Paralegal to support patent, trademark, and copyright portfolios. You will interact with outside counsel and executives across the Enterprise to manage IP matters and deadlines.
The role requires IP experience, strong docketing skills, and familiarity with USPTO systems. Hybrid in-office work is expected, with potential travel and ongoing professional development benefits.
Qualifications
- Paralegal degree/certificate (or equivalent education) with 3+ years IP experience.
- Experience with patent/trademark filing lifecycles and related filings.
- Ability to monitor, maintain, and clear complex docketing deadlines.
- Proficiency with USPTO electronic systems (EFS-Web, Patent Center, TEAS).
- Familiarity with IP docketing tools (FoundationIP, Anaqua, CPI).
- Experience evaluating IP risk/clearance for marketing content.
Responsibilities
- Assist counsel with drafting and preparing patent, trademark, and copyright filings and related documents.
- Review marketing content for IP issues and flag items for attorney review.
- Monitor trademark watch and clearance services; summarize potential risks.
- Draft cease and desist letters under attorney supervision.
- Support UDRP matters; research domain registrations and track deadlines.
- Conduct legal research and prepare summaries for attorney review.
- Interact with internal departments and external associates.
- Use IP docketing systems and USPTO portals to manage matters and deadlines.
- Travel may be required; maintain paralegal competency through CE.
