BrownWinick seeks a motivated Intellectual Property Associate Attorney with 1–2+ years of IP experience to join our Des Moines, Iowa team. You will work on patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, prosecution, litigation, and international IP matters alongside experienced attorneys.

The ideal candidate will have strong writing and advocacy skills, sound judgment, and thrive in a collaborative, client-focused environment, with direct client interaction and growth across IP matters.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Iowa State Bar or ability to obtain admission promptly.
  • Successful completion of the USPTO Patent Bar Exam.
  • 1+ years of relevant intellectual property experience.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to providing exceptional external and internal client service.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and file patents, trademarks, and copyright applications, amendments, renewals, and other IP related documents with the USPTO and foreign IP offices.
  • Advise clients regarding IP rights, protection, enforcement, licensing, and risk management.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on complex IP issues.
  • Prepare draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses for IP litigation.
  • Communicate effectively with co-counsel, clients, opposing counsel, foreign associates, and the USPTO.
  • Assist with business development and client relationship initiatives and contribute to the IP practice's growth.
  • Collaborate with attorneys across practice groups to provide comprehensive legal solutions.

Job description

BrownWinick is seeking a motivated and talented Intellectual Property Associate Attorney with 1-2+ years of intellectual property experience to join our growing Intellectual Property Practice Group in Des Moines, Iowa. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced attorneys on a broad range of complex Intellectual Property matters including Patents, Trademarks, Copyrights, Trade Secrets, prosecution as well as litigation, and international intellectual property matters.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, writing, and advocacy skills, demonstrate sound judgment, and thrive in a collaborative, client-focused environment. This candidate will have the opportunity to work directly with clients and develop meaningful experience across the full lifecycle of intellectual property matters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare, review, and file patents, trademarks, and copyright applications, amendments, renewals, and other IP related documents with the USPTO and foreign intellectual property offices.
  • Advise clients regarding intellectual property rights, protection, enforcement, licensing, and risk management.
