Job summary

Marathon Petroleum Corporation in Canonsburg, PA (additional location: Cadiz, OH) seeks an Facilities Mechanical Integrity Engineer focused on Inspection Program Management for NG&NGL. You will support MI program compliance, RBI protocol development, and outage inspections across multiple assets.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, 4+ years of experience, API code familiarity, and a valid driver’s license. This is a full-time on-site opportunity with competitive benefits.

  • Experience and certification in API codes (510, 570, 653, etc.) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with MPLX Mechanical Integrity (MI) program, maintains program records through APM and supports documentation in accordance with applicable standards such as API 510/570/576/580/etc.
  • Develops and manages RBI protocols and KPIs to monitor program effectiveness and drive risk mitigation for fixed equipment.
  • Schedules and coordinates field inspections, ensuring timely review and QA of contractor deliverables across the asset base.
  • Acts as SME for fixed equipment during outages, supports incident reviews, MOC items, and field evaluations.
  • Develops and manages inspection program budget and tracks for assigned programs and areas of responsibility.
  • Supports area of responsibility with incident reviews, MOC items, and audits within SME.
  • Supports planned and unplanned plant outages by planning inspection activities, managing contract resources, and downtime tracking.
  • Analyzes trends from fixed equipment incidents to recommend improvements and supports budgeting/forecasting.
  • Serves as a resource for audits and quality assurance for the MI program.
  • Works with Integrity and Reliability teams to ensure alignment and consistent program execution.
  • Prepares reports, procedures, and guidance documents; pursues relevant training and certifications.

Job description

Position Summary

This position will service as a Facilities Mechanical Integrity Engineer focused on Inspection Program Management for NG&NGL along with overseeing inspection services for their assigned area. The position supports MPLX's NG&NGL gas processing plants and compression stations.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures compliance with MPLX Mechanical Integrity (MI) program, maintains program records through APM and supports documentation in accordance with applicable standards such as API 510/570/576/580/etc.
  • Develops and manages Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) protocols and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor program effectiveness and drive appropriate risk mitigation strategies for critical fixed equipment.
  • Schedules and coordinates field inspections, ensuring timely review and quality assurance of contractor deliverables across assigned asset base.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for fixed equipment during both planned and unplanned outages, and provides support for incident reviews, MOC items, and field evaluations.
  • Develops and manages inspection program budget and tracks for assigned programs and areas of responsibility.
  • Supports area of responsibility with incident reviews, management of change items, and audits within subject matter expertise.
  • Supports planned and unplanned plant outages by planning inspection activities, managing contract resources, assisting Operations with downtime workload, and managing enterprise outage tracking system.
  • Analyzes trends from fixed equipment incidents to recommend and develop improvement programs; manage special emphasis programs and assist in budgeting and forecasting.
  • Serves as a resource for audits and quality assurance efforts related to MI program, ensuring program integrity and adherence to standards.
  • Works closely with Integrity and Reliability team members (Planning, Reliability, Pipeline Corrosion) to ensure alignment across functions and consistent program execution.
  • Prepares accurate and timely reports, procedures, and guidance documents; participate in professional development, recommending and pursuing relevant training and certifications.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required; civil, mechanical, or electrical preferred.
  • Four (4) years or more of experience required.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Experience and certification in API codes (510, 570, 653, etc.) preferred.
