Job summary

Marathon Petroleum Corporation is seeking an experienced Mechanical Diagnostics Technician to improve reliability of rotating and reciprocating equipment at our Bridgeport, WV site. You will monitor and analyze engines, pumps, and compressors using specialized equipment and participate in preventive maintenance planning.

The role requires a high school diploma, 5+ years of relevant machinery diagnostics experience, and the ability to work with remote supervision and travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with reciprocating and rotating machinery repair and diagnostics.
  • Experience with engine/motor/compressor condition monitoring systems.
  • Strong ability to analyze engines and compressors using Windrock Analyzer and related software.
  • Experience with vibration analysis and spectral analysis.
  • Proficient in using electronic databases and archiving data.

Responsibilities

  • Supports evaluation of preventative maintenance scope and timing using engine/motor analysis equipment and borescopes.
  • Operates and maintains gas compression equipment and control systems.
  • Maintains accurate records of engine/compressor analysis.
  • Provides condition-based corrective action recommendations and coordinates with site personnel.
  • Provides technical assistance and training on equipment operations and maintenance policies.
  • Assists in equipment failure analysis and development of standard practices.
  • Calibrates and maintains analytical equipment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver license and driving record satisfactory to the company.
  • Must be comfortable working with remote supervision and willing to travel as required.

Position Summary:

This role will be responsible for driving improvements in the reliability of rotating and reciprocating equipment (internal combustion engines, compressors, fans, pumps, motors etc.) for NG & NGL. This will be achieved through the active monitoring and evaluation using specialized analysis equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supports the evaluation of scope and timing of preventative maintenance work based on a thorough assessment using engine/motor/compressor analysis equipment, vibration equipment, and borescopes.
  • Supports operation and maintenance of plant systems including gas compression equipment, control systems, auxiliary support systems and ancillary equipment.
  • Maintains accurate records of all engine/compressor analysis
  • Provides condition-based corrective action recommendations to resolve operational problems on gas compression equipment and works directly with location personnel to resolve ancillary plant equipment issues.
  • Provides technical assistance in the operations and maintenance of plant equipment and provides training on equipment operations and maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Assists in equipment failure analysis and in the development of standard practices and procedures.
  • Calibrates and maintains analytical equipment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
  • Must be comfortable working with remote supervision.
  • Travel is required and may occasionally include out-of-town nights and weekend travel.
Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Must hold a valid Driver License and have an excellent driving record.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with reciprocating and rotating machinery repair and/or machinery diagnostics.
  • Thorough understanding of the mechanical aspects of gas compression equipment and their support systems.
  • Experience with Caterpillar and Ariel engines is preferred.
Skills:
  • Experience with reciprocating engine/motor/compressor condition monitoring systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze engines and compressor with Windrock Analyzer.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate and troubleshoot vibration problems, with an understanding of spectral analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in using electronic databases as well as storage and archival of electronic data.
  • Strong understanding of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint computer programs along with proprietary analyzer software.
