Job summary

AppFolio seeks an Integrations & AI Architect to tackle complex, cross‑system problems across the enterprise. You will design, implement, and production‑ize integrations, APIs, automation, data flows, and AI capabilities that power our platforms.

You will shape engineering patterns, drive architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and partner with Data, Security, and Product to lift reliability, security, and scalability across the integration ecosystem and AI workflows.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience across software engineering, integration engineering, platform engineering, or related technical disciplines.
• Strong track record designing and delivering production systems spanning multiple applications or domains.
• Hands-on depth across APIs, integrations, events, data flows, distributed systems, and enterprise SaaS.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical design and implementation for cross-system solutions spanning enterprise applications, APIs, integrations, automation, cloud services, data, and AI.
• Translate ambiguous business problems into pragmatic system designs, defining boundaries, sources of truth, APIs, events, schemas, and data flows.
• Evaluate tradeoffs across scalability, reliability, security, complexity, and maintainability; balance long-term architecture with near-term delivery.
• Build prototypes and POCs to validate approaches and reduce risk.
• Work directly with APIs, code, schemas, events, logs, and system behavior to investigate problems and guide implementation.
• Establish engineering patterns across APIs, event-driven architecture, orchestration, automation, batch processing, and data movement.
• Set technical direction across integration ecosystem (MuleSoft, Workato, AWS) and scalable approaches.
• Improve reliability and production readiness through observability, retries, testing, CI/CD, security, and operational support.
• Turn solutions into reusable components and shared capabilities to reduce debt.
• Partner with Data and Engineering on architecture decisions that connect apps with data and AI workflows.
• Serve as a senior technical leader and mentor; lead architecture reviews for high-impact solutions.
• Strengthen engineering practices around reliability, maintainability, security, testing, and production operations.
• Identify architectural gaps and lead pragmatic improvements.
• Influence technical direction across teams via hands-on leadership.
