Job description

Integration / Data / Reporting Specialist

Sophus is seeking a Data Integration & Business Intelligence Consultant to design, build, and optimize the data layer of legal technology implementations. This role combines expertise in data integration, migration, reporting, and business intelligence to deliver reliable, well-documented solutions that provide legal organizations with accurate, actionable insights.

Role Purpose

Own the data layer of legal technology implementations from integration design through reconciliation, BI build-out, and handoff. Translate business reporting needs and data mapping requirements into technically sound, maintainable solutions that legal teams can rely on.

Key Responsibilities
Integration Design and Build
  • Design and implement integrations between legal platforms and enterprise systems using ETL, APIs, middleware, or file-based exchange patterns.
  • Map source-to-target data fields, define transformation rules, and maintain integration design documentation.
  • Coordinate with application vendors and IT teams on API specifications, authentication methods, and data exchange formats.
  • Use sandbox and development environments for integration build and testing; coordinate promotion to production.
Stakeholder Partnership and Delivery
  • Communicate data findings, integration status, and technical decisions clearly to both business and technical audiences.
  • Work effectively with client teams, platform vendors, and Sophus delivery colleagues in a structured project environment.
  • Contribute to planning, status reporting, and continuous improvement of Sophus data and integration delivery practices.
Reporting and Business Intelligence
  • Build operational reports, dashboards, and KPI views using SQL, BI platforms, and platform-native reporting capabilities.
  • Translate business reporting requirements into structured, maintainable report designs with clear logic and documented assumptions.
  • Validate report output against source data and resolve discrepancies in collaboration with business and technical stakeholders.
Data Migration and Reconciliation
  • Lead or support data migration activities including extraction, transformation, loading, and post-load validation.
  • Develop and execute data reconciliation checks, exception handling procedures, and quality assurance processes.
  • Document migration runbooks, field mapping decisions, and issue logs to ensure audit-ready traceability.
  • Triage data defects across migration and integration workstreams and drive issues through resolution and retesting.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • 5+ years in a data, integration, or BI-focused delivery role, ideally within legal technology or professional services.
  • Proficiency in SQL for data analysis, migration validation, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL processes, API-based integrations, or structured data migration projects.
  • Strong data mapping, transformation, and reconciliation skills with an eye for data quality and accuracy.
  • Familiarity with legal operations data concepts such as matters, intakes, contacts, documents, time, and billing.
  • Analytical mindset and strong attention to detail; comfortable debugging data issues under delivery pressure.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to translate technical findings into business-readable summaries.
  • Candidates must currently be located in the United States and authorized to work in the US.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS/BA in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related field.
  • Experience with legal BI or reporting platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or platform-native reporting in case or matter management systems.
  • Familiarity with document management system integrations (iManage, NetDocuments) and Outlook or email integration patterns.
  • Experience with a legal case management or practice management platform data model is a strong plus.
  • Relevant data, integration, or analytics certifications a plus.
