Job summary

U.S. Center for SafeSport in Denver, CO is seeking an Intake Coordinator to support the Response & Resolution team, conducting intake interviews and guiding parties through the center’s resolution process.

The role involves coordinating with law enforcement, handling preliminary inquiries, and preparing documentation while maintaining compliance with SafeSport policies. A bachelor’s degree and extensive experience in misconduct investigations are preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to manage multiple tasks with interruptions in a remote environment.
• Three years' experience resolving misconduct (emotional, physical, and sexual).

Responsibilities

• Conduct preliminary inquiry into sexual, physical, and emotional misconduct.

• Train and onboard intake coordinators and external stakeholders.
• Support with special projects and high-volume reviews.
• Participate in committees and wellness groups.

SUMMARY

The U.S. Center for SafeSport is a non-profit organization focused on ending all forms of abusein sport. We endeavor to make athlete well-being the centerpiece of the nation’s sports culture through abuse prevention, education, and accountability.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Intake Coordinator is an integral part of the Response & Resolution team and is responsible for providing information about the Center’s process to parties, conducting general fact-gathering interviews with Claimants, Third-Party Reporters, and witnesses, and resolving allegations of lower severity misconduct. This includes making first contact with impacted parties, assessing the appropriateness of safety measures, coordinating with Law Enforcement, adjudicating matters informally or by way of Admonishment, and collaborating with the Investigations team regarding cases transitioning from Preliminary Inquiry to Formal Investigations.

Requirements

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Independently conduct preliminary inquiry into allegations of sexual, physical, and emotional misconduct to include:
• Conduct general fact gathering interviews with Claimants/parents, Third-Party Reporters, and, if applicable, witnesses.
• Ensure Claimants, and, if applicable, Respondents, understand the Center’s Resolution process and their options.
• Act as lead point of contact for involved parties, Claimants/their parents, law enforcement/ state acting investigative agencies, and the NGBs during the Preliminary Inquiry stage.
• Conduct ongoing risk assessment and assess the appropriateness to impose temporary/safety measures.
• Gather available records from law enforcement, court proceedings and other sources of relevant information.
• Execute Informal Resolutions and Admonishments, which includes policy analysis, communication with Respondents and/or their Advisors about the allegations, potential violations, and proposed sanctions.
• Develop and maintain functional understanding of all relevant SafeSport policies and procedures, as well as internal standard practices and protocols, and ensure compliance.
• Prepare case resolution memos, preliminary inquiry notes, other formal documentation.
• Continually identify and integrate best practices regarding preliminary investigations into allegations of sexual, physical, and emotional misconduct.
• Propose case decisions to direct supervisor during weekly scheduled 1:1 meeting.
• Regularly meet with direct supervisor regarding case decisions.
• Coordinate with Resource & Process Advisors to identify parties displaying potential mental health concerns to ensure knowledge of resources available to parties.
• Assist with special projects, such as reviewing high volume reports/ civil complaints.
• Train and onboard newly hired intake coordinators and external stakeholders.
• Provide vacation coverage to other Intake Coordinators.
• Serve on committees and work groups including hiring committees, wellness working group and the historical case review committee.
• Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in behavioral health, sociology, psychology, social and/or criminal justice, legal studies or related field
• Experience speaking with individuals reporting or accused of misconduct, specifically in a virtual setting.
• Experience engaging in conflict resolution and de-escalation.
• Experience working with a case management system, specifically one designed around administrative investigations and processing allegations of misconduct.
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines with interruptions in a remote environment.
• Three years' experience resolving all areas of misconduct (emotional, physical and sexual) with a strong background in sexual misconduct cases.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in social work, behavioral sciences, criminal justice, and/or JD
• Bilingual in Spanish or another language
• Prior experience working with athletes.
• Professional experience conducting investigations into cases alleging sexual misconduct and/or child abuse.
• Demonstrated skill in writing concise, logical, analytical reports to synthesize complex issues

WORK LOCATION – Denver, CO; or a location deemed suitable by the Center (e.g., near major airport and a state where the Center has established business operations. This is a full-time, exempt position. The starting salary range for this position is $58,413 - $63,528 , and will be commensurate with background and experience.
