Job summary

DHR Health in Edinburg, TX is seeking an Intake Psych Tech (CNA) for night shifts to provide direct and indirect patient care under RN supervision. You will support psychiatric patients, maintain a safe, clean environment and participate in CQI activities.

The role requires CNA certification, CPI training within 30 days, BLS/CPR, and strong communication. Hospital experience is preferred and the position covers multiple units as needed.

Qualifications

• High school/GED preferred.
• CPI training within 30 days of hire date.
• Current CNA certification required.
• Current BLS/CPR certification required.
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• All duties are applicable in units throughout the hospital including adult, adolescent, child, geriatric, state, civil, and state forensic units.
• Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
• Conducts a full client inventory in the Intake area.
• Give report to the nurse and tech picking up client in the Intake area.
• Does not leave the client unattended at any time.
• Identify any contraband and dispose of it appropriately.
• Identify if client has brought home medications and coordinate with nurse/family.
• Orient patient and family to BHR processes and units.
• Assist on units in between admissions coordinating with the Intake Department.
• Orients patients to the unit, takes admission vital signs and records on the Nursing Assessment Form.
• Performs and records patient vital signs, intake and output; notifies RN of changes.
• Provides general nursing care, i.e., transferring patients, assisting with ADLs.
• Continuously observes patients' behavior and notifies RN of changes.
• Demonstrates ability to identify behaviors that require intervention.
• Escorts patients for activities and tests.
• Performs safety checks and documents accordingly.
• Responsible for one-to-one observation for high-risk patients.
• Assists with restraining a patient and placing in seclusion.
• Participates in patient care conferences.
• Communicates appropriately to Nurse Manager, RNs and physicians.
• Demonstrates ability to set limits and de-escalate.
• Orients new staff to the unit.
• Assists with therapeutic groups under RN direction.
