Job summary

Lakeside Behavioral Health System in Memphis seeks a Needs Assessment and Referral Counselor to conduct telephonic and in-person risk assessments and crisis interventions. You will coordinate referrals and intake, determine level of care, and facilitate admissions while maintaining communication with families, referral sources, patients, and unit staff.

Qualifications

  • Education/licensure as listed above.
  • Experience in intake, assessment, admission and crisis intervention with a psychiatric population.
  • Experience in inpatient setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention, psychiatric diagnoses and crisis management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide telephonic and in-person risk assessment and crisis intervention.
  • Coordinate referral and intake processes.
  • Determine appropriate level of care and facilitate admission.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Needs Assessment and Referral Counselor provides telephonic and in-person risk assessment and crisis intervention, initial contact with referral sources and potential patients, coordinates the referral and intake process, determines appropriate level of care, facilitates the admission process and maintains communication with referral sources, families, patients and unit staff.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Needs Assessment and Referral Counselor provides telephonic and in‑person risk assessment and crisis intervention, initial contact with referral sources and potential patients, coordinates the referral and intake process, determines appropriate level of care, facilitates the admission process and maintains communication with referral sources, families, patients and unit staff.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. Staff must demonstrate knowledge and skill in provision of services to varied population of patients in an inpatient and partial hospital setting.

Education/Licensure: Licensed Physicians, APRN’s, Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors, Registered Nurses, Masters in Social Work, Masters in Counseling, Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy, or Masters of Psychology required.

Experience: Prior intake, assessment, admission and crisis intervention experience with a psychiatric mental health population, preferably in an inpatient setting.

Licensure/Certification: N/A

Knowledge: Prefer knowledge of crisis intervention and risk assessment, psychiatric diagnoses symptomology, basic chemical dependency, age specific growth and development and crisis and behavior management.

Supervision Received: NARC Director, Assistant NARC Director, NARC Shift Coordinator

Supervision Exercised: N/A
