Job summary

Universal Shield Insurance Group in Dublin, Ohio seeks a Surety Underwriter to screen and rate new/renewal business and assist with loss control and audits. The role supports professional interaction with agents and customers and requires organized task management.

Candidates should have a high school diploma (some college a plus), at least 1 year underwriting experience, and MS Office skills. CPCU/CIC designations are a plus but not required, with potential for growth into seniors roles.

Qualifications

• High School degree or equivalent required; some college is a plus.
• One year underwriting or comparable insurance experience preferred.
• Pursuit of CPCU, CIC or other designations preferred but not required.
• Strong proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts.
• Good organizational and time management skills required.
• Detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks.
• Insurance Agent license or certification strongly preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of commercial surety experience preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of Microsoft Excel experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform underwriting tasks as determined by the supervising underwriter, including new/renewal business screening, renewal and endorsement underwriting, and referring exceptions to the supervising underwriter.
• Refer business beyond delegated authority to supervising underwriter.
• Manage diaries and follow-ups for information on accounts.
• Provide assistance to Loss Control and audit reports.
• Rate new and renewal applications as required.
• Perform other underwriting and agent and customer management duties as requested.
• Ability to interact with colleagues, agents, and customers in a professional manner.
