Job summary

Yale NewHaven Health is seeking an Insurance Verification/Authorization Specialist to join our Patient Access team. You will verify patient benefits, obtain pre-certifications and authorizations, and communicate coverage details to clinical staff and patients using Epic and other payer portals.

The role requires 2–3 years of experience in revenue cycle operations, strong organizational and communication skills, and a CRCS or equivalent certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; CRCS certification preferred or in process within 18 months.
• 2–3 years of experience with insurance authorization/verification and revenue cycle functions preferred.
• CRCS or equivalent certification for Access Professionals required or in process within 18 months.

Responsibilities

• Collect, validates and documents patient insurance and benefits information; input into Epic.
• Obtain prior authorizations from third-party payers per payer requirements.
• Explain coverage and eligibility information to patients and clinicians; alert clinicians of issues with referrals or coverage.
• Maintain accurate records of authorizations in the EMR and payer systems; support timely follow-up on authorizations.
